Dear Mr. Dick Morris,
You're just a dumb Dick, not even a tricky Dick.
But I am a democrat.
democrat...an adherent of democracy - Merriam-Webster
And why is fixing to be shown...
While our Constitution does prescribe that the electors choose a president, the Declaration of Independence speaks of the sovereignty of the rule of the majority.
Simply put, that is Democracy. And by golly dumb Dick, I find not a single use of the word "majority", much less a mention of a "rule of the majority" in the DoC. It must be, like liberal judges, your "interpretation".
I believe that George Bush has an obligation to democracy and to the heritage of popular will to ask the electors to do so.
No one, especially the President, has an obligation to democracy.
But I speak not from party but from the basic idea that we are a democracy and that the people's view must be adopted.
Please, spare me! You're all Party, all the time! The basic FACT is that we're a Republic.
NOTE: Pay special attention to that! "...the basic idea that we are a democracy..."
The system we have is called democracy.
The system we have is called a Republic. You really are dumb, Dick!

MitchellC, discostu: are you two in agreement with Mr. Dick?

Let's not confuse little d democrat with big D Democrats. the last thing the Democratic party represents is democracy, representative or otherwise.

Sorry, I didn't catch this earlier in the week.

Having not read the article at the top, I don't know the exact context in which Morris is saying this. However, knowing who he is, then no, I'm probably not in agreement with him.

The United States is, of course, a Constitutional Republic and not a Democracy. In fact, I don't know of ANY country that is actually a pure "democracy" without pre-defined restrictions.

A Republic has its democratic elements to it - that's part of what makes it a republic. So when one person mentions 'the democracy of America,' it doesn't necessarilly mean the same thing as the unrealistic ideas of 'pure democracy' pimped by so many Lefties.

With that said, then, I believe people are incorrect when they go around saying things like "we live in a democracy," etc.
