A number of year ago, I attended a speech by one Arkady Shevchenko, then the highest ranking Soviet official to defect to the West. He had been their top guy at the UN.

He spoke, interestingly, at KENNESAW COLLEGE (and we all know what Kennesaw is famous for!).

His talk dealt with the clear intent of the leadership of the old Soviet Union to somehow take America. He mentioned their ICBMs and the nuclear blackmail threat THEY posed.

Then he broke from his prepared remarks and offered this:

"The leaders of my country are as AFRAID OF YOUR 200 MILLION PRIVATE FIREARMS as they are of your ICBMs. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR GUNS."

Frankly -- and, while he had to be careful as he was under FBI protection at the time, Shevchenko alluded to this in his remarks -- I'm as concerned about some domestic tyrant (say, Hillary or Chuck Schumer) as I am about some foreign enemy.

Somebody better tell Pravda that even the Southern Poverty Law Center says Militias are a dying beast.

Nice link!

I don't plan on buying any property or starting a business anywhere, though: I'm reducing my holdings to a 30' bluewater sailboat. I've always wanted to be an ocean-hippie!

I have an acquaintance who's been out there for 22 years and twice around the world. Just married a gal from China, and doesn't appear to feel like he's missing anything. I'm tired of cleaning gutters (thanks Fred Reed), political angst, and all the life-sucking duties of middle=class existence. I gotta live before I die.

Send you a postcard.

Nice catch on this article. Generally, I am dismissive of pieces from Pravda, but this one is substantially more right than wrong. They are spot on with the remarks about the SPLC and NAACP, and pretty close with the comments about NRA and GOA.

More importantly, they have insights into the rural movements that are most definately strong and building, and that are completely outside the knowledge of most of the inhabitants of the self-absorbed 'gorezone' ...

Still, I don't believe the anthrax last year was domestic. That is a bit of a leap.

Carolyn Chute’s Second Maine Militia, ........ Her movement is explicitly pro-gun and anti-capitalist, and deals regularly with other “right-wing” militia organization active in the area.

How can someone who is "pro-gun" be "anti-capitalist"? That's crazy. Carolyn Chute distrusts the government but would prefer government ownership of firearm manufacurers. In other words, her militia would depend upon government-owned companies to supply the firearms they want to secure theit second amendment rights against the government.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a rather shady group of lawyers who make profit by suing organizations they label as “hateful”,

You won't find that analysis in the New York Times.

The Second Amendment tells the feral gummint two things:

(a) Don't interfere with a state's right to form an armed militia for its security.

(b) Don't interfere with the people's right to keep and bear arms, regardless if they are in the militia or not.

I'm not sure what the situation is in Texas, or whether or not I would join a militia that meets and trains regularly. Actually, I'm too old anyway, but that wouldn't stop me if I had to defend my state or my country. I live in New Mexico, but am not sure if we have a state militia. I'm sure we would have one overnight if we ever needed one.

I guess it's up to the individual here to keep the invaders off their property and out of their neighborhoods. Many of us have our property posted.

[My grandad was too old for WWII, but served in the State Guard instead. Carried his 12 guage, supplied his own uniform, and patrolled the beaches of galveston Island and other coastal points on a number of occasions]

I am going to check that out. Thank you.

[American ex-pats can be found all around the world. Start your journey by clicking here. Personally, I have my eye on Belize. America is heading downhill FAST; plan accordingly.]

Thanks for the link. I am going to check it out. For myself, I probably wouldn't make the move, considering my age, but I would like to give my children and grandchildren a place to go.

Thanks again

[Chile and the Azores are of particular interest to me. I have friends outside Santiago who rave about the place. The Azores are like heaven-on-earth. Very appealing if you're inclined to the primitive.]

Thanks, for the information and I am definitely "inclined to the primitive."

I note that the word "radical" is used no less than eight times in this article. I also note that the points of view so labeled are those held high by the founding fathers.

How radical.

into the kind of tribalism that has kept Africa one of the most brutal and poverty-stricken places on Earth;

GRAMSCI WAS RIGHT.

I think the word "tribalism" deserves a lot more play around here. Congrats for recognizing it in today's context...the left and right are cementing the bonds of our two major tribes, and it IS a war for survival. Unfortunately, Tribe Leftist is in the process of allying itself with outside tribes which threaten America.

RE Gramsci...Yes, he WAS right, but I don't think he created and set into motion a vision of the downfall of a civilization, as much as he SAW and COMPREHENDED, before anyone else did, those forces which inevitably destroy all cultures.

There was never any hint that the church would be "raided."

Guess you missed this part :

His statements were taken seriously, and his unit, which marches under the slogan “God Bless The Republic -- Death to the New World Order”, was listed in a press release by the US Marshals as a major reason they chose to negotiate, rather than raid, the dissident religious group’s headquarters.

If the USA goes down the tubes, the world will enter a new dark ages, and you will not be safe anywhere. Not the Azores, not Chile, no where.
