Linda Vester mentioned earlier today on Fox News that the tarot death card was actually from a French card set and had the word 'le morte' on it (Fr. for death).
I posted this on the Fr. sniper thread but thought it would be of interest here...

The only problem is: they don't WANT to release the picture. And for the life of me, I can't understand why... Gotta put that tinfoil hat on and think...

The shooter might have been staking out the fbi building and just followed someone home, some likely employee chosen randomly, who looked like she was leaving work for the day, then he just stayed with her till he found his chance.

The day she was shot was Columbus Day, so she may not have been at work that day. On the other hand, if my suspicion is correct that she was working on the sniper case, there's a good chance she would have been working on a holiday.

"Le morte" is not standard French. Standard French for "death" is "la mort". Maybe it's a dialectical or archaic form.

I heard some report (who can remember what was reported and from whom?????) that the sniper had called the cops and told them that he had left them a note.

That was the explanation put out this morning... someone called the hotline from the phone booth and said there is a note. That was the explanation as to how they staked out the phone booth, and you are right, the latest story is that the number was in the note, could be, both are correct.

Seriously, most FReepers are way too mean to him.

I read the comments made against Moose since this started and I think that was due to the fact that early on, no one knew what the stakes were and how severe,terrifying, and deadly this was becoming...Also, Moose also was extremely upset w/ the media for reporting certain info, NOW everyone knows why he was upset..There's been a LOT going on behind the scenes that the freepers and thousands of others were unaware of until recently..Who'd ever think it would escalate the way it has, and now it's apparent the sniper has chosen Moose to lead the pack..and we STILL don't know all that's going on due to the consequences more innocents will face if the snipers demands aren't followed, and I'm certain there's many people who've been up round the clock...

By calling the press conf. he probably stopped another shooting today. He let everyone know that the arrested were not the shooter (otherwise, why would he send a message to the shooter after the arrest) so the shooter did not have to strike again to prove he is still free.

The French connection had some of us thinking about comments attributed to the terrorists who were behind attack on French tanker...the gist of it was that the terrorists had wanted to strike one of our vessels but there was a 'mistake' made...

Well said. And we STILL don't know the stakes. I can't help but think that threats were made against children and schools, otherwise why would 5 districts have closed? The threat HAS TO BE more severe than the usual one shot, one victim. Some kind of WMD is probably threatened. Even a van filled with explosives could do a lot of damage next to a school: see the TV footage of the bombing in Israel today.

This is scary.

Why would he have to take a long time to learn the local roads/layout? Isn't a military person trained to learn such things in a short amount of time...say a day or two. Of course, he could have a driver who takes him around to spy an area out.

But it was not Moose that mess up this morning, it was Sheriff Stuart V. Cook of Hanover County, Va.
