One of the problems is that so many of the scenarios seem plausible.

Yours is a good one (although I think Tomkat also had some good insights, because I'm not convinced that all of the shootings were carried out identically).

You made a point that was noteworthy: LE seems to think there IS a white van involved. We've been dismissing this one here - as if anybody had bothered to send Freepers all the facts (although the case would probably be solved if they had!) - but I think you're right, there must be enough information to believe that there is a white van involved in this. I know an alert for white vans was issued to NYC, for example, so this indicates that the information may not come just from witnesses but from some other source.

The parkings spaces insight was very interesting. And, if most (but not all) of the shootings were from inside the van/truck, it might explain why people hear a loud noise but so far nobody has seen a flash.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: A white Astrovan with ladder rack parking at the back of a parking lot even though spaces are available closer in.

The killer(s)appear to be pretty smart. To smart to be driving a white van around anymore.

The killer may not even be trying to leave the crime area anymore. If these shopping centers are near motels, he could easily take out a romm, do his killing, walk back to his room and spend the night watching the local news.

A little theory I've been throwing around... It is possible that he/they spent the last few days of no sniper shootings re-painting their vehicles.
