Gee, don't you understand that that has to be the case to remain pc? Besides, he is useful. Strong, articulate men with wisdom and intelligence like Cook are not as readily manipulated. Although that press conference showed that these days the Sherrif is bowing to the Fed. Something the Constitution disallows.
To: Letitring
I wonder if that's the same FBI guy I heard last night...

After reading your post, I think it must have been. Certainly sounds the same. He made the most sense of anybody so far. I missed the press conference, thanks to all for the updates.

if it was helpful to release the anthrax letters right away, why are they holding back in this case? The gov'mint isn't being consistent with how they're handling any of these things. Makes me wonder why.
To: nicmarlo
What could they be holding back that would scare folks more than they already are?
To: nicmarlo
wonder if the FBI sent in the "Chief" so less info would be posted.....You could be right. He's already taking the heat for everybody and he might just be "convenient". On the other hand, it might be the perps who want it that way. Someone also suggested it could be a personal challenge. Could be. Bottom line is: Moose should've been on the sidelines by now and that's definitely suspicious.

No George, not Chief Moose, last night, Chief of Police of Ashland came in....different guy. Sorry for confusion.

Digital cameras, either still or video, are great because the pictures don't need to be developed by anybody. You can just look at them on your screen or print them on your regular printer - or send them by e-mail.
BTW, I thought that was a very good idea about the campgrounds/RV parks. Staying in one of these, of course, they could also use a legitimately registered car (or RV)with out-of-state plates that would make them less likely to be objects of suspicion. (Well, unless they're Florida plates, that is...)

What could they be holding back that would scare folks more than they already are? Interception of actual plans; Info. from prisoners in wherever they are (Gitmo?). There's been talk about the AQ training manual....we probably know much less than they know, of course, but there may be more going on here, in the higher up level, than they're even letting police officers know.....
To: tomkat
they're learning too ? Well, one could ONLY hope!

Do you think the shootings will come to an end around November 6? I doubt it. Frankly, I thought that the Falls Church murder was the "finale", given that it was seemingly riskier and "inside the beltway". Now, I'd lean towards a decreased frequency of one every two or three weeks.
The motivation, whether Islamic terrorist, disaffected American, mercenary or "lone nut", is more likely to be something in the past than and anticipation of the future.
Some months back, I recall reading a post about Russian women snipers being rather effective against Russian forces in Chechnya. I think their motivation was mercenary.

What could they be holding back that would scare folks more than they already are? nuke/bio threats ?
sorry to be blunt, but that's what the bastards intend to do, given the means/opportunity.
all the more reason to find/exterminate 'em.
nationalistic attitude ?

Does anybody remember reading a couple of weeks ago, just before this started, about an al Qaeda "banker" who was picked up by the FBI in Florida? He had bought a one-way ticket to Palatka, a small town that is a stop on the Amtrak line, but aroused suspicion because of a problem with his ID when he tried to buy the ticket at the train station (somewhere in South Florida). He was already under surveillance by the FBI and they arrested him. (I think he was found to have several IDs on him when they arrested him!)
The relevant point is that the article said that, for some reason, he was believed to be on his way to DC.

livius: You're absolutely right. I'm still in love with my 35mm. That adds "computer" to the picture, yes??
It may be that just before the hit, they take the N,S,E,W view of previously photographed sites and make sure nothing has changed (cameras etc) to alter the plan.

Well, if there's a terrorist connection, I think they ought to spill. Holding back is only going to make imaginations run amok, and if/when folks finally do get a hold of that info, the gov't is going to lose some major credibility. Every time it opens its metaphorical mouth to make a pronouncement, we're going to wonder what it is they're not saying. At least I am.
To: GeorgeandtheDralgore
That's true. It is strange how we still have Moose and the other fine Cops are off stage. Some of the other Chiefs haven't been seen or heard from since the event in their area happened.
To: mewzilla
btw, regardless whether this string is salamis/homegrown, my last still applies ...
