Reports: Islamist Militants May Seek To Unite, Strike in Europe

Summary

Islamist militants from scores of countries reportedly convened recently in Bosnia, agreeing to set aside differences and to present a united front in the face of "American-Zionist aggression." Although it is not known whether al Qaeda members were present, such a convention would suggest that militants are feeling the heat from the U.S. anti-terrorism war and are seeking to turn the tide by staging coordinated attacks against the West.

Analysis

Russian and Yugoslav intelligence sources claim that more than 150 Islamic radicals from more than 50 countries held a secret congress in Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Oct. 8. Strana.ru, a pro-government Russian media source, issued a similar report, citing "well-informed diplomatic sources."

According to these sources, the Islamists declared jihad on the "European race" -- meaning both Americans and Europeans -- because it has become "the willing slaves of Jews and Israel." Participants also agreed to put aside any conflicts within the Muslim world in order to unite all Islamic forces as soon as possible for "a return strike" in response to "American-Zionist aggression," the sources say. The militants allegedly declared that all means, both legal and illegal, should be used for that purpose.

Although it is unknown whether al Qaeda members were present at the reported meeting, its occurrence would suggest Islamic militants are feeling the heat from the U.S. anti-terrorism war and are trying to turn the tide by staging coordinated attacks. A united front against the United States and its perceived domination in the Muslim world is something Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda have been calling for since the beginning of their struggle against the United States.

What bothers me is we helped defend those Bosnian Muslims. We can't bomb our allies now can we? Why do you need cruise missiles when you have tens of thousands of well armed NATO (including American) troops on the ground? What is NATO doing? Oh yea! This is ignorance plain and simple - the Serbs went to war with their memories of the "Turks" in Bosnia in 1992, and during that conflict Al Quaeda set up fund raising operations skimming off of charities while the Iranians did the heavy lifting as far as supplying foreign fighters.

Al Qaeda associated with Jihad organizations already there (source), and recruited from them instead of setting up it's own cells, so any talk of Osama's involvement in Bosnia is based upon something other than fact.

Anyway, now Serbian Special Forces, the same guys who are still protecting Ratko Mladic to this day and can't even figure out who buried the Kosovar Albanians in their own training grounds, (well, that's not true - they know but they're fatally compromised as far as being a reputable source of anything other than self serving B.S.) report a supposed meeting of Islamic Radicals in Travnik to www.rosbalt.com, a Russian news agency (and now apparently to strana.ru), this is somehow picked up by the drones at Stratfor.com and turned into a breaking news event.

Quite simply, it's a third hand lie until confirmed by a better source.

We need to be going after legitimate intelligence leads in our fight against Al Quaeda and it's affiliates rather than following the rants of the losers in the Balkan wars with any seriousness - some on FR were pushing the lie that some of the hijackers were Bosnian after 9/11. Had anyone in an investigative position heeded this story, how much critical time would have been wasted chasing figments of someone's warped agenda instead of piecing the actual story together? Just be forewarned, you cannot make good decisions with bad information.
