I didn't catch where he was from either. They probably didn't say because the "I'm an American" commercials are supposed to have taught us to be more polite. ; * )
IMHO, he was acting strangely.
I agree that he acted very strange. When Greta was wrapping up the interview and saying what horrible circumstances he witnessed, he had a big smile on his face. Very inappropriate behavior.
