The Most Ridiculous Nobel Peace Price yet:

The Nobel Peace Prize to Jimmy Carter? Are they out of their freaking minds?

By doing nothing to prevent our regional ally, the Shah of Iran, from being overthrown by Islamic fundamentalists, President Jimmy Carter started the chain of events that led to the Gulf War...

Without which the 9-11 attacks on the United States never would have happened....

Without which the United States would not have become so fearful about the possibility of weapons of mass destruction being used on our country that we are now willing to institute a new doctrine of preemptive strike to remove remote dictators because they might have and use them against us or our allies, or provide them to terrorist networks who will.

By Jimmy Carter allowing the Shah of Iran to fall, the United States later found it necessary to back Iraq in its war against Iran in order to maintain stability against the Soviet threat to the Middle East...

Which empowered the monster, Saddam Hussein...

Which gave Saddam Hussein the idea that he was our boy and could do whatever the hell he liked, including invading Kuwait...

Which caused the United States to have to push Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait, because it was our mess to clean up...

Which ticked off Usama bin Laden because of the presence of infidels (that is, our troops) in Saudi Arabia, which we were using as a staging area against Saddam Hussein in the Gulf War...

Which led Usama bin Laden to plan and execute the Al Qaeda 9-11 attacks.

This idiotic bungling of the international balance of power by President Jimmy Carter, with consequences that have led to terrorism and war, is the prizeworthy making and promoting of peace?

promoting of peace?

Sheesh.

This is the best RealPolitikal summation I have seen of the idiocy of a Peace Prize for Carter. This item is towards the end of Friday's postings. The source URL will change to something like http://www.jerrypournelle.com/mail/mail226.html#Friday in a couple of days.

Pinging a few Georgia friends regarding our home-grown former President.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the "Price" is an intentional play on words, and I love it.

Bad as this decision was, Arafat still remains the worst choice the Nobel Peace Committee ever made. After that, they were as irrelevant as the UN.

No arguments. After that one, no thinking person could take the prize, and whatever committee awards it, seriously.

Unfortunately, Carters choice makes perfect sense, from their point of view. The European intelegencia still believes that the world can return to it's state of the mid 1990's. Either we are right and nothing short of defeat we stop the crazies, or they are right and the crazies will just go away if ignored/given in to.
We will propably find out which is correct because the US will probably stop after Iraq. Then the crazies will do something even worse. The Arab's should fear what our reaction will be then.

Jimmy's all too public remark regarding his problem controlling his 'lust' made me wonder then whether he was playing with a full deck.

Like that other (democrat) foreign policy failure clinton, Jimmy would appear to be unable to fully control his baser inclinations.

And, also like clinton, Jimmy has demonstrated an inability (or unwillingness) to keep his more embarrassing impulses private.

I'm convinced that clinton's job performance problems were exacerbated by his demented predilection to repeatedly masturbate himself and those around him.

Could Jimmy have been similarly driven to distraction?

I wonder if they still believe in the tooth fairy as well.

I never cease to be amazed by the EU and their short memories. Terrorism was very much alive and well in 1930's and not a move was made until it was too late, throwing the entire world into conflict.

As horrible and as devastating as WWII was, another escalating conflict due to indifference would have exponentially greater disastrous results.

In their minds it would "only" be the conceited Americans who would suffer the consequences, so, like, who cares?

Swedes are pro terrorist.

The Norwegian parliment appoints the Nobel Peace Prize Committee. Sweden is like a country run along the lines of NPR commentators. Which means they are pro terrorist, but irrelevant.
