It's 6:30 a.m. EST and we're waiting to go to the second press conference providing media and local updates on the Maryland sniper shootings. To date, the 13 year old boy has survived the evening and seems to be improving. Fox News mentioned that his aunt is a nurse. The police briefing at 6:15 a.m. mentioned Todd Beamer's Let's Roll comment and police are urging people to use caution, good judgment, but remain strong and try to continue with everyday life as much as possible.
Police had a search warrant last night (didn't say for who or where) related to the sniper shootings, but the search did not provide any information to LEO.

Why just 1 round? That seems pointless at first glance Not one round.... one piece of brass. No 223 rounds whatsoever...just larger rounds.

But they CAN be done from a vehicle. Just not one moving at the time of the shot.My point exactly. The one doing the driving stays at the wheel when he stops the car and is ready to take off as soon as his partner is done.

"I think he is a college student..."If the media really HAS been regularly confusing FEET with YARDS, I agree it's probably a college kid or two. The distance is a really REALLY crucial detail.
As for the schizophrenia part...maybe. I'm leaning toward anarchist. And thinking of the anarchist protestors who converged on DC recently, bent on violence but thwarted by police.

Chief Moose, asked about his comments this morning regardng terrorists Do you know what his comments were?
To: relee
Well the only thing I picked up on in that last press conference was a reporter asked what an officer was doing with a rifle case with a tag on it seen in a nearby county about 30 minutes ago....I had to switch to (ugh) CNN to hear the questions by the reporters. The chief didn't give any revealing answer to the question. I wonder if they have someone in custody and that's why things are all quiet on the MD front?

I maintain that someone has likely heard some of these shots. If so, they could help catch the guy if they had thought ahead about what they would do if they heard it. AHHHH yea...and "IF the dog didn't stop to crap he would have "caught" the rabbit"...good old Texas-ism...

Isn't that what I said, just in a different way? Or was this reply a joke?

I think one of the Columbine kid's mommy was mixed up with the MMM's.
Anyone know what Sarah Brady's kid is up to these days? I heard he had an interest in sniper rifles. < almost sarcasm >

Not one round.... one piece of brass. Thanks for that clarification -- as cake_crumb say, that's a very interesting point.
My original question thus becomes: why shoot just one .223 round?

IF after the first shot and a person were to look around and see a muzzle flash of the second shot...you would have a place to start an investigation...
Brass could be a red herring...

Excellent work!

Brass could be a red herring... The brass in question is the stuff related to the Oregon 6, not this case.

With the two confirmed .224 bullets that were found, I would like to make sure whether or not, after 2000 posts, a 5.56/.223 Remington was the actual cartridge.

I'm sorry...shouldn't interrupt a "thread-versation"...tee hee...

Now it's confirmed, they did find a shell.
UPDATED : 3:26 p.m. EDT October 8, 2002
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Federal authorities are examining a shell casing found near the school where a 13-year-old boy was shot yesterday. That's the latest word from Prince George's County, Md., police Chief Gerald Wilson.
