Somali leaders react to Lewiston mayor
LEWISTON - A letter in which Lewiston's mayor encouraged Somali residents to tell their friends and families to stop coming to the city is being described as "inflammatory and disturbing" by Somali leaders.
Somali elders have written a response to Mayor Larry Raymond in which they describe him as an "ill-informed leader who is bent toward bigotry." They've called a news conference Monday afternoon to further discuss their views.
More than 1,000 Somalis live in Lewiston, which has a population of about 36,000. Many of them relocated from Atlanta.
City officials estimate that half of the 412 Somali adults in Lewiston have found work but many still receive public assistance.

To be reasonable, political correctness requires renaming Portland to "New Somalia"

Anybody who knows Maine knows that they can't support a large influx of indigent immigrants. Maine is the poorest of the New England states and probably one of the poorer in the entire country. Maine has been hard-scrabble country since forever. And cold...

Have they been through a winter yet?

412 adults, thus an average of 3 kids per household; since some are older, the average is probably closer to 4.
Just wait until people get REALLY ticked off. It will get much uglier.

Somali leaders react to Lewiston mayor... What is a Somali leader? In what direction are they headed?

Lewiston is a college town - Bates College. Perhaps it most infamous graduate is Bryant Gumble. Being a college town, lots of liberals. So, maybe they are getting what they deserve. If these citizens of Lewiston had an ounce of common sense, they would quickly change the requirements to receive welfare as well as cut the payments. Those Somalis would likely be on the next bus heading out of town.

I love it. I hope shanty towns go up. Watch the liberal vermin scurry like rats to avoid tax increases.

Somalis moving into a Liberal town sounds like poetic justice to me. Kinda like a really bad-dude criminal being given a slap on the wrist by a liberal judge, and then moving in next to the judge. There should be more of that. Let them live with what they want to inflict on us!

I think the same sentiment is echoed in San Francisco too, though, Willie Brown did not make a statement saying that homeless people should not go to San Francisco.
I think it was a study about the number of homeless in San Francisco and reasons for the number, as opposed to neighboring cities.
