I would have driven the kid also, if for no other reason than the fear of another shot. She got him to a hospital that, albiet not equiped properly for such massive trauma, they could start transfusions and try to staunch the blood flow. A doctor and nurse would be with the child on the helicopter flight, working on him as needed. The biggest threat to his life would be bleeding out, and who is to say that would not have happened if the mother had not taken the action she did.

Amazing, isn't it, that even on a thread like this the Parent Police are out in force?

Mom did the right thing. The hospital was apparently only about a mile away. She probably got there in two or three minutes -- probably saved many minutes off the arrival of the ambulance, and thereby saved her son's life.
