Way -- think of Harris and Klebold at Columbine. They chose to do what they did, but they could as easily have taken the random sniper approach, with similar results.
I don't think teens would carry it this far without slipping up or one of them cracking. This does not seem like the work of pshyco teens -- more like trained killers
