Portland, Ore. -- As a worldwide manhunt intensified Saturday for two fugitives believed to be members of an al Qaeda cell here, residents expressed grave concerns that there may be terrorists in their midst.

The fugitives are among six people indicted in what federal authorities said was a conspiracy to provide aid to the Taliban and Osama bin Laden's terrorists. Three of those indicted were arrested in Portland on Friday. A fourth was arrested in Michigan.

People are rethinking, 'Should we even live in the United States.' "

No one is forced to stay in the USA.

"There are people who are first generation (immigrants) who no doubt have sympathy with those who have attacked us," Mandaville said. "But that doesn't make them terrorists."

makes them subhuman

"The reaction is, 'Why are they doing this to this community?' There's fear and concern," said the mosque leader, who declined to give his name. "Muslims are looked upon differently. People are rethinking, 'Should we even live in the United States.' "
Now they're getting it! Move along... don't let the door hit ya in the arse!

I've heard that less than 2% of immigrants ever leave.

That's too bad, maybe we can bump the average?

Here's a happy thought from Middle East expert Daniel Pipes:

Islamists constitute a small but significant minority of Muslims, perhaps 10 to 15 per cent of the population. Many of them are peaceable in apearance, but they all must be considered potential killers.

How does 400,000 to 800,000 -- in our country -- potential killers sound?

Yeah, it would really break my heart if they all left, but the truth is, you couldn't blast these ticks out of here with a hydrogen bomb.

New detail:

The FBI is reportedly investigating another member of the Islamic Center suspected of having ties with Wadih el Hage, a top aide to bin Laden. The suspect reportedly was in a gemstone business with el Hage and had other financial dealings with him, according to court records cited by the Oregonian newspaper.

"One person in Seattle and four to nine in Portland is hardly an international terrorist cell in operation," said Jon Mandaville, head of the Middle East Studies Center at Portland State University.

What about that member of the Naval Reserve that was arrested in Tacoma a few months ago? Didn't he and his buddy Ujaama turn out to have connections to radical imam Abu Hamza al Masri in London?

If a day ever comes that Christians act like Muslims, then I might take their whining complaints seriously. For example:

INDONESIA: Massacre of Christians shatters Maluku peace accord

At least 12 people have been killed by a Muslim mob which attacked a Christian village in the Moluccan islands in eastern Indonesia.

The violence then spread to the regional capital, Ambon city, where a bomb went off, and a centre for Christian and Muslim children and one of the city's main churches were set on fire.

It is the most serious outbreak of violence in the Moluccas since a peace deal was signed by Christian and Muslim leaders in February 2002. The deal was intended to put an end to three years of sectarian violence in which more than 6,000 people have died.

Homes set alight

The violence began early on Sunday in the village of Soya.
"They attacked the village by using home-made bombs and set fire to some of the houses," a local journalist said.
There are reports that some 30 homes and a church were set on fire.

Six people are reported to have been stabbed to death, and a further six are said to have died in the fires.

Christian sources say the Soya attack was carried out by a Muslim mob armed with machetes, knives and bombs.

Two of the attackers also died in the fighting.

Many of the villagers, particularly the women and children, have now fled the area.

Ambon police chief Brigadier-General Sunarko Danu Artanto confirmed the attack, but gave no further details.

Independence

The violence comes after the Christian separatist South Moluccas Republic (RMS) group raised flags in Ambon on Thursday, the 52nd anniversary of a failed independence bid.

Angry Muslim crowds took to the streets in response, and the leader of the extremist Islamic organisation, Laskar Jihad, called on all Muslims in the Moluccan islands to launch a renewed war against the Christian community.
The group's commander, Jafar Umar Thalib, told thousands attending a rally after Friday prayers that the peace agreement should be ignored.

BBC Jakarta correspondent Richard Galpin says the critical issue now is whether the authorities can prevent the violence from spreading - which would mean clamping down on the activities of Laskar Jihad, which so far the government has been afraid to do.

Muslims make up 85% of Indonesia's 210 million people, but in the Moluccas half the population is Christian. [For how long it remains half Christian, who can say?]

Yes; some members of the Seattle Cell went to the London mosque and met with the cleric. Ujaama did their web site I think.
