The lesson for all time is to learn what happens when one tries to play fair with Democrats.

Remember the 2000 power-sharing arrangement? The Republicans won the Senate but gave the Democrats close to 50-50 committee assignments. They backstabbed Republicans and flipped Jim Jeffords.

Remember Mel Carnahan? John Aschroft graciously stepped aside and let Jean Carnahan take his seat. They backstabbed him and Mrs. Carnahan voted against Ashcroft for AG.

Remember Mel Carnahan? He died before the election but the Republicans didn't fight his ballot. The Democrats are now trying to get away with it again in Hawaii with Patsy Mink. If they have to go to court to argue it, they will point to Carnahan as precedent because the Republicans refused to press the issue.

Remember the new tone in Washington? Bush tried to play nice with Democrats and they fly to Baghdad to declare that Bush is a liar and Hussein is trustworthy.

Remember the vandalized White House? Bush tried to downplay the damage, so the Democrats demanded an apology.

Now this. Watch and learn, Republicans, watch and learn.

Now this. Watch and learn, Republicans, watch and learn.

If they haven't learned by now they aren't going to, at least this generation thats there now.

Just wait a few years when the young Republicans who grew hating this national disgrace of a party take office and annihilate the democrats once and for all.

FTH: The statute's vagueness is a door by which the USSC may enter, not a big one, but it could build out an equal protection argument. And as Political Junkie Too suggests, it's not best to look at reasons not to fight, but rather fight even battles that appear in all honesty to be losing ones. The battle against evil, evolves sometimes into a simple test of faith in Providence, but not a slacker's faith --- a doer's faith.
