Democrats Defend Visit to Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) Two Democratic congressmen, brushing off criticisms they were aiding the enemy, said Wednesday their mission to Iraq succeeded in impressing on Iraqis that war was likely if they did not agree to unfettered inspections of weapons stockpiles.
Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington and David Bonior of Michigan, both Vietnam War-era veterans, also said at a news conference that they felt obligated to inform Americans of the risks they faced by going to war with Iraq.
McDermott said he was stunned by ``the extent to which the Iraqi people are ready to fight house-to-house.'' He asked whether the United States should ``be taking on this country all by itself when the Arab world is now seething with recruits for Osama bin Laden.''
The two lawmakers, and Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., returned Tuesday night from their visit to Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. In news conferences while in Iraq they urged the Iraqis not to interfere with the inspection process and the Bush administration to give those inspections a chance to work before taking military action.
Republican leaders strongly criticized the visit, with Sen. Don Nickles of Oklahoma, the Senate's No. 2 Republican, saying they ``both sound somewhat like spokespersons for the Iraqi government.''
House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, said McDermott was ``totally out of touch with the most fundamental tenet of congressional responsibilities'' and that he and other liberals had ``just basically regressed to their childhood days of Vietnam War protests.''
McDermott said he was not a pacifist but had ``a responsibility as a patriot, as someone who loves his country, to speak up for what I believe.'' War, added Bonior, ``destroys lives in such a profound way.''
McDermott stressed that ``I don't trust Saddam Hussein under any circumstances,'' but said President Bush had confused the issue by shifting the issue from disarmament, which could be accomplished diplomatically, to regime change, which would require war.

I notice that the news media isn't quoting McDermott's comments today that we KNEW that we were at war after Pearl Harbor and Bush has yet to provide proof of Iraq's intentions. (Paraphrasing.)
FNC is the only station with the quote, I've yet to find it in any news story. If I were McDermott's opponent, I'd take that quote along with the one from Iraq, and make a commercial running non stop starting today!

Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington and David Bonior of Michigan, both Vietnam War-era veterans who never heard a shot fired in anger.
Gore = Daschle = McDermott = Bonior = Fonda. A socialist straight flush.

The two lawmakers, and Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., returned Tuesday night from their visit to Baghdad I find this statement hilarious as Mikie Thompson represents my northern Calif district. On a KINS radio poll yesterday 90% of the respondents to a poll panned Mikie.

I believe Rep. Thompson was absent from the press conference, wasn't he? Maybe he has enough sense to lay low. Also, he gave no smarmy quotes over in Baghdad, as far as I can see. (I could be wrong on that, but I haven't seen him quoted anywhere.)

Back in the '80s, Boner's district in Michigan was known as the home of the Reagan Democrats. The national media would come out and note the phenomenon all the time. It used to amaze me that these people could vote for a real man like Reagan and at the same time reelect a slimy little twit like Boner.

Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington and David Bonior of Michigan, both Vietnam War-era veteransI wish they would stop doing that. I am a Vietnam War-ERA vet who never saw Vietnam. I suppose this gives me moral authority? Of course not. It actions and ideas of today must be judged on their merits, not on some sort of authority as absurd as this. I can say that I have some personal knowledge of the military but how does this make my beliefs any more relevant??

Rep Thompson will forever more be known as the Congressman with two anuses. Everywhere they went in Iraq, the natives would shout," Look, it's the American Congressman with two *ss h*les!"

Given these two %$$#&^%$ idiots and what happened in NJ the question must be asked, how can anyone vote for a democrat?

Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington and David Bonior of Michigan, both Vietnam War-era veterans, Boy, the media really are shameless, aren't they?
I wonder, in which office in Hawaii Bonior and McDermott were clerking during the "Vietnam War Era"?
It's too bad we don't have email addresses at hand for the media rodents who dribble this bilge out of their keyboards...

Given these two %$$#&^%$ idiots and what happened in NJ the question must be asked, how can anyone vote for a democrat? I really think that most Democrats, including the rank and file are nasty hateful people. They don't necessarily like one another, but they use their coalition of big labor, homosexuals, africanhyphenamericans, arabhyphenamericans, the hateful environmentalists, etc in their war against those of us who don't embrace their beliefs. Our white democrat neighbors across the street fled Detroit for the suburbs in the 1970s when Coolman Young and the africanhyphenamerican democrats became the political power there. They don't want africanhyphenamericans living around them, they want all of us to pay for the degrading hateful anti-family welfare state to keep the africanhyphenamericans down on the liberal plantation. There is more to answer your question than just this, but the basic premise of my comments is that is all about power over all of us. Democrats hate the very idea of individual rights and private property unless its selectively their own. They'll make any compromise with any devil to promote that basic agenda.

I wouldn't go that far. I have a number of friends who are not just democrats but liberal democrats. And no I really don't know why these otherwise bright people hold to the same polital ideas we held many decades ago. One of lifes mysteries.
You WILL notice that I didn't say anything about the leadership of the party. As far as I can see they are all about acquiring and keeping political power, and damn the consequences. We know how you should live your life and if you don't like...tough.

Actually, they were both in California. Bonior was "slinging hash during the day and going to school at night." That is according to Bonior himself. McDermott was a psychiatrist in San Diego who treated Vietnam military personnel.
They are utterly shameless.
