Whoa! Yesterday the Torch. Now, this! Hope he's OK.

Me, too. For the humanitarian reasons, of course, but also because the governor of S.C. is a Democrat and would likely appoint same to fill out Strom's term, should the need arise.

Some help from South Carolina or other knowledgable FREEPers:

Isn't this Strom's last term this year - 2002? (If so, who's running for his seat?) And isn't he 100, or close to it?

Again, I pray he's OK and makes breaks records (as the oldest senator) and make more history.

". . .but also because the governor of S.C. is a Democrat and would likely appoint same to fill out Strom's term, should the need arise."

Indeed, when Republican Senator, Paul Coverdale died, we got the same. Repubs lucked out, as best we could, with the apointment of former retired Democrat Governor, now Senator Zell Miller.

Think there is only one Zell, however.

This is not good - we need Repubs desperately. . .

I know! Lets change out some losing candidates!
