The national media will protect the Democrats and will spin this to make the Republicans look bad. No matter what the Republican response is, the press will play the Democratic spin in a positive way.

What's interesting to me about what is happening now is that media bias is blinding them to how these stories look. Like Judy Woodruff calling the Democrats the "peace" party - she doesn't get it because she assumes a majority of people agree with her that's good not bad. So what looks like cynical manipulation to most people will look good to the press - keeping the Senate Democrat is good not bad and if torching the Torch does that, its a good thing. I think they'll be pretty straight about reporting this story.
