WTH? I'm curious why anybody would think this is the business of the U.S. or the U.N. For that matter, I curious why anybody would think that *anything* is the business of the U.N.

WTF is up with this?
To: Sloth
The US is circumventing the Arabs at the UN by pushing their own version of a resolution, which they discussed with Israel, per a report I heard on Fox. Israel basically said fine, knowing that the US is trying to mollify the Arabs as the plans for the Iraq attack continue.

The United States introduced a draft resolution in the U.N. Security Council on Monday calling on Israel to stop destroying Palestinian installations in Ramallah. Washington unveiled the measure on the fourth day of an Israeli siege of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Ramallah headquarters, during which Israeli soldiers destroyed every structure in the compound but the one occupied by Arafat
Relax. We just defanged the Arab resolution. There's only one building left and Israel had already said they weren't planning to destroy that.
While I don't like the idea of giving the UN any legitimacy, this was a good move in protection of Israel.

They are just upset that Israel did not file the environmental impact survey before doing the urban renewal project in Ramalah.

The US government is no friend of Israel. This proves it. It's sickening.

A policy based on forcing the other side to capitulate is a bankrupt policy Probably meant in the Palestine context. Certainly the Iraq context is different. Isn't it?

So you're saying that we introduced a resolution demanding that Israel cease and desist after they had already accomplished everything they wanted to do?
To: Sloth
USA needs to learn to mind it's own business regarding Israel, for they do not like having their people murdered either. Israel is most justified in trying to destroy any devil who is trying to kill them. Israel needs to get tougher instead of playing pussy cat with their killers.

Exactly, the resolution called for them to quit demolishing buildings. Big deal, that's not much of a resolution in my book.

Israel needs to get tougher instead of playing pussy cat with their killers. Believe it or not, "honor" is very important over there. By killing Arafat, he becomes a martyer, but by making him look like a total loser is like dropping a bomb on him.
So Arafat plays the role of "victim" to distract from losing his honor in the eyes of his allies.
Isreal is making him look like a real waste of human flesh without killing him. If Isreal keeps it up, Arafats own people may end up taking him out.
How long will they keep their whoosie leader?
To: goodieD
the US is the best friend israel has....this is the realpolitik of the 21st century. chill out, israel will do just fine. prez bush won't betray this alliance.
To: RCW2001
Now that they've torn down Arafat's compound, can the Israelis do the UN building next?
To: goodieD
The US is the best friend Isral has ever had.
This resolution will make it eaiser to take out Sadam. That will help Israel far more than this resolution will harm them. The UN is no better than the League of Nations was anyway. So I really could care less what they do. Syria is the biggest Terrorist nation right now yet sit on their anti-terror commitee. The UN has become the bash America league.
The UN is pathetic and we should pull out of it.
