Totally off topic, but I used to work with an Albert Postlewait who lived in Wheeling. At the Quarto #7 coal mine near Clarington, Ohio. We were both laid off when the mine closed in 1984. I'd be interested in knowing if it was the same guy.

Looking at the time frame, he states he has 17 years on the force, it may very well be! It's not a name like John Smith after all.

If you'd really like to look up your old friend, call the police department. Go for it! Life is short ya know.

Needless to say, in the few years since I got my concealed carry permit, I've fired my pistol only at the shooting range, never in the streets, at a human being or even a rat. So much for the doom-and-gloomers predicting blood in the streets if law-abiding citizens carry guns.

Ohio Supreme Court candidates answer Plain Dealer survey

QUESTION 4: To what extent should the predicted impact on public safety affect the court's interpretation of the right to carry concealed weapons?

BLACK: When it comes to gun owners' rights, I support the 2nd Amendment and the Ohio Constitution. As a threshold matter, the Ohio Constitution provides that "The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security." The law properly prohibits judges from commenting on pending cases, and because the carrying concealed weapons case is now pending before the Court, I cannot comment on it.

O'CONNOR: Not knowing what "that predicted impact on public safety" means, if and when the Ohio Supreme Court rules on the legal issue of whether a citizen may carry a concealed weapon, the Court should consider the precepts of both the U.S. and Ohio Constitutions as well as the dictates of the Ohio Revised Code.

BURNSIDE: This question deals specifically with an area of public policy currently being debated by the legislators in the Ohio General Assembly and with issues likely to face judicial review. Canon 7(B)(2)(d) prohibits me from commenting on any issue likely to come before the court. It is the duty of the legislature to make the law. If a challenge to a law is raised and comes before the Court, it is the responsibility of the Court to determine whether the law violates the Ohio Constitution.

STRATTON: The Carry Concealed Weapon case is on appeal to us from Cincinnati, so under Canon 3, I am not permitted comment, as this is an issue in the case.
