What's UNESCO good for?
National Post ^ | September 21 2002

There are two kinds of people in the world -- the masses who love Western culture, and the elites who hate it. While the former congregate in multiplexes or in video rental stores, the latter tend to gather in more select venues, such as meetings of the United Nations Economic, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). For the last few years, UNESCO's meetings have brought together ministers of culture from around the world. These supremos obsess over the question of how to cure the masses of their appetite for NFL football and the Backstreet Boys. UNESCO used to be a cesspool of anti-Semitism and anti-Westernism; today it's a supper club for snobs.

UNESCO held one of its periodic conclaves this week, in Istanbul, Turkey. Don Boudria, Canada's Minister of State, attended the meeting (in the place of Sheila Copps, Canada's culture czar.) The talking points issued by Minister Boudria's office for the meeting bulge with UNESCO cant. The points note that "cultural diversity" is "one of the roots of development and as necessary for humankind as biodiversity is for nature." (Is this really true? Just one culture -- Western culture, with all its blemishes and shortcomings-- made possible the entire modern idea of development. But let that pass for now.)

Why does UNESCO promote this concept? Once it entrenches the idea that cultural and biological diversity are the same, then governments can meddle away in the name of "protecting" indigenous culture -- the same way the cause of environmentalism allows bureaucrats to enlarge the state while making a show of protecting wild spaces.

And since the globe's culturatti excoriate Hollywood as the main threat to the survival of indigenous art forms and folk ways, you don't need to guess where culture ministers will concentrate their regulatory fire. Just look at the rules Canada imposes on U.S. cultural imports, and you'll get the essence of the "solutions" likely to be proposed by UNESCO in the future.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the United States, which announced last week that it is rejoining UNESCO after a two-decade absence, can do to defend its interests against the self-interested pieties of this unpleasant cultural cabal.

July, 1948 -- Britain's Sir Harold Butler, in the CFR's Foreign Affairs, sees "a New World Order" taking shape:

"How far can the life of nations, which for centuries have thought of themselves as distinct and unique, be merged with the life of other nations? How far are they prepared to sacrifice a part of their sovereignty without which there can be no effective economic or political union?... Out of the prevailing confusion a new world is taking shape... which may point the way toward the new order... That will be the beginning of a real United Nations, no longer crippled by a split personality, but held together by a common faith."

1948 -- UNESCO president and Fabian Socialist, Sir Julian Huxley, calls for a radical eugenic policy in UNESCO: Its Purpose and Its Philosophy. He states:

"Thus, even though it is quite true that any radical eugenic policy of controlled human breeding will be for many years politically and psychologically impossible, it will be important for UNESCO to see that the eugenic problem is examined with the greatest care and that the public mind is informed of the issues at stake that much that is now unthinkable may at least become thinkable."

1948 -- The preliminary draft of a World Constitution is published by U.S. educators advocating regional federation on the way toward world federation or government with England incorporated into a European federation.

The Constitution provides for a "World Council" along with a "Chamber of Guardians" to enforce world law. Also included is a "Preamble" calling upon nations to surrender their arms to the world government, and includes the right of this "Federal Republic of the World" to seize private property for federal use.

February 9, 1950 -- The Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee introduces Senate Concurrent Resolution 66 which begins:

"Whereas, in order to achieve universal peace and justice, the present Charter of the United Nations should be changed to provide a true world government constitution."

The resolution was first introduced in the Senate on September 13, 1949 by Senator Glen Taylor (D-Idaho). Senator Alexander Wiley (R-Wisconsin) called it "a consummation devoutly to be wished for" and said, "I understand your proposition is either change the United Nations, or change or create, by a separate convention, a world order." Senator Taylor later stated:

"We would have to sacrifice considerable sovereignty to the world organization to enable them to levy taxes in their own right to support themselves."

1950 -- In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, international financier James P Warburg said:

"we shall have a world government, whether or not we like it. The question is only whether world government will be achieved by consent or by conquest.

UNESCO is a good way to keep the American media from screaming that Bush is going to withdraw from the UN and make the entire world the enemy of the USA.

UNESCO is a good way for Bush to keep the US media from reporting that the German judge was speaking the truth when she called Bush a Hitler.

Bush took the UN out of the business of determining when and against whom we will make war. He took our national sovereignty back from the UN and threw them a bone called UNESCO. He did it so the left would would not notice he was making the UN powerless. Seems like a good trade to me. The media like lots of others has not yet noticed what Bush did. He has in effect destroyed the UN as a force in world affairs.

A decade ago Bush's Daddy had to get UN permission to do anything about Saddam. Our own congress would not approve any action until Bush Sr. got permission from the UN. This time Bush told the UN to take its charter and shove it. But to keep the Media from being able to paint bush as the anti UN anti World Peace killer of babies, Bush refunded UNESCO. It was a brilliant move to return the USA to an independant nation determining its own destiny. Especially when most Americans would not have suppported what Bush did.

One of the ways people prove they don't usderstand much of anything, is by proving they do not understand much of anything.

One of the ways people prove they don't usderstand much of anything, is by proving they do not understand much of anything.

Spoken by a true anti-American Socialist!

You are either on welfare, have no children, or have no idea what is going on in the world.

So you think our rejoining UNESCO is just throwing the UN a bone. How about if the bone included the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Thomas Jefferson's home Monticello. How about if it included the education of your children, and how you will work in the future. How about if it included your own psychology, which the UN will now judge the sanity of?

This is why Ronald Reagan refused to hand over to the UN. George W. Bush has just sold us out to world governance. Hope you like what we get in exchange. I don't think you will.

Many of these articles are by Berit Kjos, a world recognized researcher. Berit is a Christian and her articles are naturally from that point of view. But facts are facts and no one is doing a better job of keeping the facts on the UN straight today. Every single tidbit of information in all these articles is documented and available for anyone who wants to look.

If you didn't already know what UNESCO is all about, you are about to be shocked.

Most of these articles are not strictly about UNESCO, but then UNESCO is part of a much bigger UN strategy. As you read these articles, you will begin to see the complete picture unfolding. Many things you have seen going on in government, in schools, in the news, even in your own community, and company that may have baffled you, will suddenly be understandable -- and when you understand, you will be very angry.

Make no mistake. This bunch might munch caviar and spout culturalisms, but its real danger lies in the fine print. They own so many of our sovereign treasures under the guise of "World Heritage Sites." What's left to grab? And why did George re-up? Thankyou Ronnie Reagan for getting us out of this evil group.

and your enemies even closer.

Which really means, you better know what they are up to. Keeping your enemies close does not mean you have to pay their way or turn your syndicate over to them. And you better not trust them alone with your kids.
