"Xlinton WAS elected. . . .
Twice
That should be a bumper sticker. If that doesn't get every patriotic American to the polls on election day, what will?"

Your comment bears repeating. His election (TWICE) makes me furious, perplexed and scared all at the same time.

On smaller classrooms-
Governor Bush announced the first in a series of education plans today.
Excerpt from RPOF email:
Governor Bush proposes bonding the growth in the state's sales tax portion of the Communication Services Tax (CST) revenue over the next five years to provide $2.8 billion in school construction and renovation funds for Florida's 67 local school districts. Through the selling of bonds, and
by taking advantage of the current low interest rates, Florida will receive immediate funds to begin building schools while guaranteeing payment of the original investment plus interest to the entity purchasing the bonds by a specified future date. "There isn't an educator in Florida who doesn't want smaller classes, but the Coalition to Reduce Class Size's initiative will do more harm
than good. The initiative would take away any flexibility I have as a principal or my teachers have to teach our students," said Anna Diaz, principal, University High School in Orlando.
The Coalition to Reduce Class Size is a McBride thing and would indicate a tax increase.

Thank you, windchime. The Governor's plan is a good one.

I'm so angry about these amendments. We're forced to play defense, and where are we supposed to come up with the money to refute the amendment's claims this close to an election? Why should we have to anyway? There's no opportunity for debate...anyone with the money can send people out to collect signatures..."class size amendment" sounds so good. Next year they'll do what Rush joked about, put up a "Floridian vacation amendment" demanding free condos on the beach for all Floridians. We should get this on the ballot just to show how bad this amendment process is. Fla. Sen. Bob Graham heads up an institute to push for this loony method of legislating by conning the masses.

Former aide alleges Graham laundered money for initiative

Those donations could go instead to a Washington-based clearinghouse called the Initiative and Referendum Institute. In return for each donation, the Graham campaign would get a discount from a think tank director who owned the company the Graham campaign paid to collect its petition signatures.

"In other words, a $10,000 contribution would result in a $6,000 deduction from his bill," Gibson wrote in a Jan. 7 e-mail that explained the trade to Graham's Senate office operations manager.

"This is a good way to enable our supporters to help us even though they have to make (nonprofit) contributions," Gibson wrote. "Please see that this gets to the senator. He needs it as part of his arsenal when talking to folks about (Education Excellence for Florida)."

Initiative and Referendum Institute, bringing us those expensive and deceptive amendments like "class size" and state-paid pre-school, and high speed rails...
Many of us wonder why a federal Senator is involving himself in Florida's state education.
