The greed of some of these people is quite appalling.

Wow, she really told us! Aren't you glad we have such an enlightened individual to lead us out of the darknes of our own minds?

I blame George Bush, et al, for offering money to compensate life in this deal. It should never have been done. Life can be short, brutal and nasty. Nothing in the Constitution guarantees it won't be.

So, on September 11, I suggest that you not light a candle for the victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Plenty of others will do so for you.

I disagree. Taking this logic to another extreme is the same thing as saying, 'don't join the U.S. military. Plenty of others will do the dying for you.'

You agree with her concept of Lisa Beamer cashing in on her husbands death?!

It's refreshing to see these points of view finally coming out as I feel many others have the same thoughts.

First, one's TV has an on/off switch. One does have the choice.

Second, My fellow citizens and neighbors were murdered. Not some remote destitute people.

Last, there isn't much I as an American can do about people killing each other in Africa. There is something I can do about my fellow citizens being murdered and I intend to.

If Bush did it, I agree. But did he? Or was it Congress?

The writer of the article suggests we send a dollar to the illiterate children of Afghanistan. She's no better than the people she pretends to critique. Her fix is the same; money, false guilt and hypocritical piety! Makes me want to run for the exit door.

One REAL shame is that this type of lame hogwash passes for intellectual rigor and insightful review.

Or could it be she simply has a cause she believes in?

I do think it matters where the money goes.

GREED is a terrible thing...As soon as the CROOKED TRIAL LAWYERS got involved, I knew I wouldn't like the result.

I still say Beemer's jet was shot down...

But after all, man didn't do that to man. A quake can't be helped. So it's forgotten in an evening or two by us bighearted, courageous citizens of the best country on Earth.

People die in accidents everyday, but we generally don't get worked up over it. Unless it is family, someone we know, something a little closer to home. While one is saddened by the loss of life in tragic circumstances like those mentioned they often do not hold special meaning to people. It is a sad reality.

This happened to people of our country, the country that helps others all the time, the country that has lost many in battle to save the lives of others. We have always tried hard to do good for others, though not perfectly so, we have been there to help the world over. We go out of our way in this society, especially the left, to give handouts to all kinds of people who do nothing and never will do anything. These were people going to work and trying to make a life snuffed out. If my tax money is going to anyone, I would want it to be those families, not to some drunk jerk who wants another bottle of wine.

They may not be graceful, some may be using the system, but overall people lost somthing they will never ever get back.

There is much truth in this article. 9/11 was a tragedy (an appropriate word to describe it). But all too many Americans are making a maudlin fetish out of 9/11. 9/11 is becoming an American cult.

This is not the high point of history, the most momentous event of all time and space, the greatest suffering ever to inflict a nation. Some 50,000 Americans die every year on the road. And yes, she's right, 20,000+ Indians apparently died in a quake.

But some Americans seem to want to wrap themselves in the bloody flag of 9/11, and devote all their lives to "remembering" and "comemorating" forever and ever...

She's right. I do not BARF at this article, I applaud it. Like she said, let's not be like other nations, let's not nurse our wounds for centuries. The cliche holds true: Time to move on.

Supposedly most the fighters were not armed (no missiles).

I have to admit that I am fed up and disgusted with all the emotional orgies going on. It's almost like there is a contest to see who can emote the most. Many of us have had family members killed [my own son was killed in a car accident 2 1/2 years ago] but we don't go around inflicting our grief on everyone else day in and day out. We don't make public spectacles of ourselves and try in every imaginable way to capitalize on our tragedies. It's just tacky, tacky, tacky.

While we should never forget 9-11, I am not proud of that day for America and am disgusted at all the hoopla surrounding it. Why should we try to glorify the day we got our ass handed to us? It makes us look like self centered little narcissists and is certainly nothing to be proud about. I think the only purpose is to have an orgy of grief and emotions.
