he pretty much had libertarian family values nailed down cold.
You cannot be a statist and a libertarian.
You can be a statist and be a republican (e.g. kevin curry) or a democrat (e.g. clinton).

Center for Survey Research & Analysis at the University of Connecticut for the Freedom Forum First Amendment CenterLooks like they spent more money on the organization name than an accurate poll.

reminds us of Abraham Lincolns words
"Our reliance against tyranny is in the love of liberty which God has planted in us. Our defense is in the spirit which prized liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism at your own doors.Familiarize yourself with the chains of bondage and you prepare your own limbs to wear them.Accustomed to trample on the rights of others, you have lost the genius of your own independence and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises among you."
Abraham Lincoln, speech during campaign against Stephen A. Douglas
for seat in U.S. Senate, September 1858

Your posts may be flaccid and puerile, but I must applaud you on this one thing: you have toughed it out here. You are quite unlike that girly-man OWK who talks tough but pouts and slinks away if everyone doesn't agree with him. I admire your persistence, tpaine.

Once again kevin, -- your reply is a form of confession, my son.
I'm 'flaccid', OWK's a girly-man.. How weird, - & telling.
Now, I hope you don't pout about this too much, -- but I spit on your 'admiration'. Go suck up to someone who cares what you think.

About half of those surveyed said government should be able to monitor religious groups in the interest of national security, even if that means infringing upon religious freedom. And they should. Quite a high percentage of mosques double as terrorist fund raising centers.

Clinton "almost a libertarian?" Hardly. All he'd have to do is change is position on the WOD, taxes, foreign aid, health care, education, social security, etc., etc.
I know libertarians, Bill, and you're no libertarian.

Lincoln certainly was right about that. A few others have commented as well:
The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.
-- Thomas Jefferson
I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.
-- James Madison
The true danger is when liberty is nibbled away, for expedience, and by parts.
-- Edmund Burke
"There is none more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free!"
-- Johann W. von Goethe

Thanks, J.R.
It's a sad day when so many have lost sight.

Now you don't always disagree with me now do you?

A republic is a form of State. Thus, a republican would have to be a statist wouldn't he?
