One of my co-workers is of Mexican descent. He's earned a Masters in Elec. Engineering and I admire him alot. But one of the most profound things he has ever said is "I don't consider myself a Mexican, I'm an American. If Mexico went to war, I could care less. If America goes to war, I'll be on the front lines, which is where I belong". That's putting your country ahead of your roots. I wish more immigrants would do the same.

Democracy and liberty are not identical.

One thing you learn living in countries with truly disfunctional governments is that "disfunction" can open up spaces of liberty that don't exist in a more controlled society.

I have lived in countries that were little more than a police state, and felt more free than I ever have in the US.

This is not to defend police states, and there is good reason why the people born in those countries are trying to get out. But our legalocracy has reached the point that we are no longer free. If you have to ask permission to raise your kids, open a business, defend yourself, spit tobacco on the sidewalk, buddy you are not free.

Democracy is not freedom. Freedom is freedom.

>>...Anyway, Mexico. These folk have no idea how to run an airport. For one thing, they’re civil. Their security people are not surly urban aborigines one step removed from human sacrifice. Further, they aren’t crazy. If a six-year-old boy were discovered to have a rubber pirate’s dagger, they would not wrestle him to the ground and strip-search his grandmother. They would figure he was a kid with a rubber pirate’s dagger...<<

LOL!

Funny article, thanks.

I was in Tommy’s Bar the other day when a horse stuck its head in the door.

Good horse, wants to know where his rider is...

In Mexico, you get on a horse and point it where you want to go. Nobody gives a damn. It’s a horse.

Oh Geez, sounds like heavan to me, the horses that is.
