9/11/02: What are you going to do? (vanity)

The 1st anniversary of 9/11 is approaching us. Many people I know are taking vacation time from work that includes Wednesday 9/11/02. I myself am thinking about taking at least the day off and be with my family.

Do you have any special plans? Or will you just go about your daily routine?

Go to a rememberance rally in my neighborhood, which, incidentally, has a large Arab Muslim population.

I'm a stay home Mom - a homeschooler.
The kids and I are basically going to take the day off; perhaps watch a good show about it on the TV. I'll show them a book I have of the Twin Towers, show them my personal photos of the Twin Towers (I grew up in NY -Long Island), teach them about what hate can make people do (the Muslim Fundies)....and talk about love and living life and we will pray for the nation....and the kids can talk about their feelings, they saw it happen on TV since they were not in a public school.

Taking a day off sounds like a good idea. Go for it. I'm going to suggest that idea to my husband.....

I've already told my kids, we're going to the Pentagon and pray.

They like the idea and so do I.

teach them about what hate can make people do (the Muslim Fundies).

It's more like what philosophies can make people do. It wasn't hate, but strict adherence to what the Koran says people loyal to God should do is what made them do what they did.

The terrorists were only being good Muslims.

Well, with all the stuff you listed you are planning on doing, that sure doesn't SOUND like a day off to me! It sure sounds like you're put a lot of thought into it. Your kids are lucky!

We will continue to fly our flag and go on with life. I will never forget what happened, but I do hope the commemoration isn't overplayed.

On the one hand we should remember and show respect for those who lost their lives. On the other hand in pockets around the world people will jump up and down with glee at the commemoration of their brethren's successes. Yes, that's how they'll see it.

Every passing 09/11 should deepen our resolve to make sure another never takes place. In my opinion that's the deepest and most appropriate honor we could associate with the loss of our fellow citizens.

What was stolen from them should never be stolen again on our shores.

Perhaps the nation should take the day off. We should all flock to Washington, D.C. and demand that our government once and for all stop every possible illegal entry by people who could be carrying weapons, nuclear device ingredients or biological or viral agents.

Almost one year has gone by since foreign nationals killed our fellow citizens. Have we clamped down? Essentially no.

If there is a local commemoration, I will attend, but most of the day will be spent in quiet meditation on the grief, the heroism and the triumph of patriotism in the face of pure evil.

I will be more than likely, where I was on that day. In front of the World Financial Center attempting to move people away from the Towers before they fell. I had gone in and out of them three seperate times in the hour after #2 was struck and fell. (I luckily moved some equipment into tower two when it was struck and did not get hit with debris from the plane strike. I did however witness the folks in the lobby in front of the elevator doors be incinerated by a fireball.) We then sheparded injured persons and other civilians away from the towers and the jumpers. When we saw #2 begin to rumble we managed to get into the lobby of the WFC. After the collapse of #2, we had to force our way out of the windows, (we were afraid to shoot them in case civilians were on the other side) and walked back out to see if we could help, we began to walk towards #1 and were getting set up when it began to rumble, when it started coming down we were sprinting towards the river and thinking (thinking, thats an odd word to use, maybe reacting is better) about jumping in to get away from the debris cloud. I hope someday to have the strength to tell all who were not there what it was like...

I have an appointment with my audiologist on 9-10-02, so on 9-11-02, I hope to be wearing my hearing aids. Other than that, a regular day at work.

As far as the attacks on NYC, DC an PA, I think about them all the time. We should crush the bastards responsible for this.

I will light 3 candles on my front walk. One for those who passed (the victims). One for those left behind (the families/children). One for those who will go on (all of us).

It's a Wednesday. Will your family all be home too?

I'll be at work wearing red, white and blue.

The last September 11th, my mother was in the New York area. This year I've made doubly sure everyone is in Britain this time around.

I will go to church, light a candle for those who were not so fortunate as my mother to be outside of the city when it occured.

Regards, Ivan

An Excellent idea! I'll do the same thing with red, white, and blue candles.

I will be working.
But distracted.

I will be reflecting on how the most profound changes in our lives always occur out of the blue, have profound influences unimaginable at first, and affect us permanently.

Suddenly retirement at the first opportunity became a no brainer for me.
