I'm all for supporting genuinely Moderate Muslims. (Those of you who contend they don't exist, click on the keyword for relevant articles I've indexed.)

It's not that we think they don't exist. It's that we don't think they are really Muslims.

Even if you claim that "extemists" compose only a small percentage of Muslims, there are an estimated 1 Billion Muslims, even 1 percent or 10 million is too many. They refuse to deal with the problem, so let the US go in and do it for them, as we always seem to have to do in the end.
