Roosevelt from what I understand during the Battle of the Bulge pressured scientists to speed up the bomb's development. I don't doubt after what happened at Dresden he would have hesitated to use it in Europe.

Just a thought.

Maybe I've forgotten my history, but didn't the Krauts surrender on 8 May 45 and the first successful test was at Alamagordo, NM in July? A little late...unless..unless...that old bastard Patton was intending to take it to the Soviets.

This is true, which is why I don't doubt if the US had the bomb before the war ended in Europe, Roosevelt would have used it. Too bad though Russia wasn't made to leave Eastern Europe, we had the power to make them and didn't use it.

ST: One last thing, when you hear people say, "Let's nuke 'em," "Let's nuke these people," what do you think?
PT: Oh, I wouldn't hesitate if I had the choice. I'd wipe 'em out. You're gonna kill innocent people at the same time, but we've never fought a damn war anywhere in the world where they didn't kill innocent people. If the newspapers would just cut out the shit: "You've killed so many civilians." That's their tough luck for being there.
Studs certainly didn't get the answer he wanted there and backed off real fast! Terkel is one of the bigger phonies that you'll come across.

NEVER FORGET
...You know, I really got's to thank you for finding and sharing this "Little" Number with us. Who would-a thunk 50 years ago that in a new Century we'd get to know about our possessing a 3rd Hell on Earth and of our will to use it for Victory in War...?
...Sort-a reminds us of the attitude we all should embrace in a new -Time of War- with an Enemy that is now...
...just around the corner and up your street...?

Despite his hard left politics, Studs Terkel is one of the best interviewers alive. He lets the other fellow talk, rather than argue with him or pass judgment. This was first-rate work.

We all have to remember that Studs Terkel is a leftist that did some decent work (Brother Have You Got a Dime?; The Last Good War) but usually with that slant. I can't figure out what he is up to here because it, the timing issue, is simply off.

Please, please think about doing this now.
Q. why do they ban fireworks at the tour De France?
A. Cause everytime they went off, the French riders would surrender.
