Not only is identity theft a huge problem, but since 9/11, we've all become more aware of who can steal one's identity. I hope you also pass this article along to others in your position. It's very much a security issue, on all levels.
You may also want to contact the person in charge of hiring, especially if temps are hired. They, too, need a background check. This was such a security breach that my head was spinning when I found the story.
