>>I don't know how the others feel here, but everytime a child is abducted it is a tragedy. We may not hear of every single case because that would mean they would have to have a "Missing Child TV" show to keep us updated due to the large volume of abducted children that go unreported by TV everyday. <<

I think there is a huge difference between stranger abductions and familial, especially parents abductions. Familial abductions do not usually end in death and account for something like 85% percent of all abductions with like 50% of that being by a non-custodial parent.

Have you ever seen the kid/abductor pictures on the milk cartons? I think 99% of the time I see that the pair share a last name. I personally don't give as much concern over familial abductions. I know of too many cases where mom screws dad over in custody court by telling lies about abuse and drugs etc and dad gets no custody because of the lies. In this case I believe that if she had been decent enough to not be a b*tch maybe she wouldn't be going through this, you drive a parent from their own child and you are going to get some unusual even criminal behavior. Beyond parents it become more questionable but still- the child is likely to not be harmed. I know it is what I would do someone tried to steal my children away from me. What goes around comes around.

Stranger abductions on the other hand are much less common and at the same time have a larger chance to end in death or at the very least harm of some variety. These certainly do deserve coverage although intensive local coverage is going to be the most important- at least enough for at least a few hours when the search area and therfore he coverage area should certainly be enlarged.

Finally however I do find it interesting that all these abductions are being reported on nationally all of a sudden. I certainly don't mind that they are reporting them I just find it odd that we go from reporting on one or two a year to reporting all of them all of a sudden. Danielle Van Dam was not the first missing child to end up dead so it can't be that that is why people care so much all of a sudden. That suggests an agenda like nothing else.

Maybe the "agenda" is the realization that if these cases get fast media attention, there is a chance the child in question may be saved, and that other children will not suffer the same fate from the hands of the perp.

In addition, some states are dragging their feet making sex offender data readily available to the public (like California).
