Maybe he should have resisted more, but I think it's hard to disagree with the idea that he really shouldn't have been forced to make that sort of choice in the first place. Rape, beating, or in the worst case, beaten until he's no longer able to resist the rape. This kind of thing is much too common in prisons and jails around the country, and I think we've all turned a blind eye to it for long enough.

Pretty much. God forbid I or anyone I know should ever find themselves in that situation, but I certainly hope I'd do whatever I had to do to defend myself. If he's taking it from me, he's taking it from a corpse is how I look at it.

But I'm older now, and this kid was 19 - just a kid, scared sh*tless at being in lockup for the first time. We all say we'd fight back, but realistically we weren't there and we weren't him.
