Just heard on CNBC that the capos of the Adelphia Communications empire, John Rigas and his sons, have been ARRESTED on charges of mail fraud regarding the fraudulent activities in their Adelphia Communications media/sports empire.
Some arrests took place in NYC, others in tiny Coudersport, PA (45 miles from here).
A prosecutorial press conference is expected later today.

Before the Sabres fans get nuts in here...relax a little on this one. The NHL bailed them out for another year so they are not moving just yet. But there are some certain parts of North America COUGH Utah Cough that are looking at them.

This is a hell of a lot bigger than just mail fraud my amigo. This is massive fraud. Wall Street already in the major plus zone. But I am still waiting for citigroup to take the major hit and watch some dems go to jail....clicking heels...rubin...clicking heels...clinton...clicking heels...

Anyone want to name a stadium today? Give the Tennessee Titans a call.

Yes, I think you are right.
I heard the 3 charges were wire fraud, bank fraud and I think securities fraud. Although running from the family room back to the computer room I may have dropped/mistook one of those charges.
I sure hope that there is some connection to the previous administration. The sheeple will soon begin believing what the press wants them to believe: that George W. Bush is responsible for the economy and all the corporate fraud, and they will begin to lose faith in him. Nevermind that MOST Americans have forgotten that the economy was doing well up and until September 11th.
Seems that OBL may have done more than just destroy 3 buildings and killed 3,000+ people. And he's probably somewhere in a cave, laughing his butt off.

Who do they donate to? Go to www.opensecrets.org and punch in the name Rigas in the block on the left. You will find that their donations have been to Republicans (Arlen Specter, Jack Quinn), National Republican Congressional Cmte. and PAC's (Adelphi and cable assn..

Someone wake me up when they arrest the Enron, Arthur Anderson, WorldComm, Global Crossing and CitiCorp exec's (and anyone else I forgot) who are responsible for f'ing up the economy, and shaking investor confidence so badly through their half-assed, half-baked, rape-the-investor-of-all-their-hard-earned-dollars schemes.Perhaps this is why Dubya's judicial appointees are being stonewalled?

If they're found guilty, then they should go to the 'bubba' prisons, not the country-club "club Fed" prisons.

They didn't just arrest them -- they arranged a HUGE PRESS CONFERENCE. A big planned media event.
Maybe they have good reason to arrest Rigas, but the media event seems like Bush's handlers trying to send a message that Bush is cracking down on Wall Street. Exactly what Clinton would have done.

Bush is a mere lackey and would never touch his corpulent capitalist buddies! Seems Bush is like Clinton. They watch the polls, and respond accordingly. Sometimes Bush/Clinton/Bush gets it right, sometimes not. But it's always politically motivated.

It was a pathetic over reach of the police to put handcuffs on these guys. A simple phone call to their houses and they would have come in, but no the govt. needed to have a photo op of a 70 year old man in a business suit being led away in handcuffs. This is a classic abuse of police authority.

All that was missing was the SWAT team. Be thankful that Janet El Reno wasn't running the show; 2 of the sons would be dead and the charcoal that used to be the family homestead would be smoulderting.

My thinking as well. Funny how the Republicans do all the muckraking in this country - from ending feudalism in the South to roping in the mega moguls under TR and now the Bush/Ashcroft +team going after the "exuberants". I am impressed!

This is excellent news for the nation and its economy but bad news for the depressed Western NY area whose politicians/press licked the ground the Rigas family walked on. Another nail in the economic disaster of the region staggering under high taxation and the stalinist control of the Democrats. I just wish they could have arrested the pols too!

The GOP is marginally better than the Dems. But only marginally. Both are led by political animals with little regard for the Constitution.

A few names have been suggested to replace Adelphia Stadium. Most reflect the terrible deal that Nashville taxpayers got socked with by Titans owner Bud Adams and our liberal Harvard educated Mayor, now running for Governor, Phil Bredesen (a tax-and-spend Democrat.)
Some of the best suggested names have been: The "Bud Hole", "Phil's Folly", "Taxpayers Stadium", "Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe Coliseum", or the company that came in second to Adelphia in the name bidding, the "Just For Feet" shoe company. We could feature two giant shoeless hillbilly feet. At halftime of each game, a hillbilly could come to midfield and be awarded a pair of shoes!
