[history]
John Walker Lindh's guilty plea and minimum actual time in prison sentence of 17 years fully meet the demands of justice and the rightful anger of patriotic Americans. At this point, only the prosecuting attorney has been in a position to fully assess all the elements of the case against the despicable Lindh. Those who were expecting full prosecution on all counts and a minimum life in prison sentence should be assuaged by the reputation and track record of the prosecuting attorney, U.S. Attorney Paul McNulty. He is a known and admired quantity in activist conservative circles. As a former senior legal policy adviser to House Majority Leader Dick Armey and Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde, Mr. McNulty has been well-known as a tough, intellectually rigorous leader of conservative legal activism. If a better result were legally available, Mr. McNulty was the man to see that process through.

Maybe JWL find Christ, fully repent and will be able to enjoy the fruits of heaven on an equivalent basis as John Spann the American CIA agent who lost his life. </ religious sarcasm>

Which means he'll be out in 10 if that? I say try the
#@$&^*%! He wouldn't have wimped out unless he knew he couldn't win. He should do life at the very least.

According to an article I read, Lindh can get 3 years off for good behavior, nothing more, since it's a federal crime.

I really enjoyed the press conference where Johnny's dad compared his boy to Nelson Mandella. No wonder this kid is so screwed up, he was raised by freaking idiots.

Yeah, and Dad will be real popular among his neighbors I'm sure (total sarcasm - unless he lives in California). Does the Dad live in Virginia and the Mom lives in California?

"Which means he'll be out in 10 if that? I say try the #@$&^*%! He wouldn't have wimped out unless he knew he couldn't win. He should do life at the very least." I'm actually pleased with this deal. It saves us the time and expense of a trial, the whining of the liberal press, and the posturing of politicians. And someone seeking his 15 minutes of fames will send Johnnie to the afterlife without his virgins - and all without extra cost to the taxpayers.

the prosecution team was mindful of the demands that a long series of pretrial hearings and trial would place on more than 30 of their military personnel witnesses. These potential witnesses are currently at the center of actual anti-terrorism efforts around the globe. Pulling them away from their dangerous and vital duties to hang around courtroom corridors for months was correctly included in the prosecution calculus. Likewise this all was intended by the Brosnahan defense as well - tie up the military so they can't fight.
Which all gets us back to why this should have been by military tribunal and Lindh's rights denied in a quick determination of his lack of citizenship.
Watch what this has left in place for further monkey wrenches to be thrown at the military in the future.
