I may have to suggest to HAT that we do a smoke shop run on during the next meeting. I'm sure someone in that group knows of a place or three. (I only know of one).

Another thing to add to the list of things to battle.

There is a very nice one at Shepherd & Washington..
Replete with wooden indian. Signage indicates they carry
equipment & supplies for smoke-making.

"Next step is growing your own. "

Well, living this far NORTH with only three months of summer, if we are lucky, I think it would be really hard to grow our own tobacco..........

What you need is your own indoor hydro-ponic tobacco grow operation in your basement.

I must be watching the wrong news stations and reading the wrong newspapaers because I have no idea what you are talking about.

Please educate me as to where you see any activity relative to what you are talking about.

I should have specified after the blooms are open, usually about a week. The cut should be made above the last leaves at the top. If you want, allow a couple to polinate, then secure paper bags about the blossom head. The seeds are incredibly small, so get a good bag. plastic can work, but make some cuts (for ventilation) near the top to keep from cooking the flower top.

I live in North Dakota. Your weather looks like a nice winter day here (sun is shining).

The trick is to get a lot of lead time, especially in zone 3. If your plants are in the 6" to 1 foot range (plant in late February or early March) by the time you transplant them outside, you should do OK.

We did it, but started a month late the first time. The key factor in latitudes like ours is the extended day in summer, from about 5AM to 11 PM local time. The growing season is short, but intense. Water and fertilize lighlty (Miracle Grow works fine) when you transplant them, water often, and feed them about once a week. You will be amazed. We had 6 foot plants.

Time your transplanting to miss your last frost, harvest before the first. Ninety days is a good run if your plants are well on the way when you transplant them.

One other thing, plant your seeds in the same soil you will be transplanting the plants into, this cuts transplant shock and helps the plants establish themselves faster after transplanting.

Didn't they inflict Bork on us? Wasn't he the health czar who started the war on smokers?

Bork was "borked" by the dems, thus, he had no influence. What are you talking about? Just what was his part relative to the subject of this thread?

Thanks for the link, Mackey. I haven't had time to try it out, but www.yesmoke.com/eng/index.asp seems to offer even better prices, although their selection is more limited, but they do have European brands that Ron's doesn't carry. Either way, we stand to save a bundle and foil, temporarily, the tax plunderers in our gov't! With internet access universal these days, I can't see why everyone wouldn't buy this way. Happy smoking!
