I just think the whole premise is bizarre. Asking people if Clinton's "moral failings" inspired grown men to indulge in criminal accounting schemes?
Just silly.

Silly it may be, but it addresses a key political point which could affect the Congressional elections and the Presidential race to come. All the chat shows are talking about it. The basic premise has been that the GOP, known as the party of big business, would be vulnerable to an attack on this front. This polling data, if accurate, would be a blow to advocates of that strategy, and, more importantly, to the Nader 2004 campaign.

They can blame who they want for the accounting scandals, prosecution is the responsibility of this DOJ. So far I've seen nothing but pre mid term election noise. If the people settle for speeches and a couple new regulations that will be circumvented before the ink is dry, we are as stupid as they believe we are.

"I just think the whole premise is bizarre. Asking people if Clinton's "moral failings" inspired grown men to indulge in criminal accounting schemes?" Would it have made more sense if they'd included slack SEC oversight and the fact that the White House was For Sale to the highest bidder?

Asking people if Clinton's "moral failings" inspired grown men to indulge in criminal accounting schemes? Chauvenist pig.

Human behavior can be very strange...to us it may not matter much, but moral leadership really does affect the country. Look at the statistics oh High School kids that engaged in oral sex as a function of Date. It spiked _ALOT_ when the whole Lewisky(sp?) scandal was going on.

Maybe. I agree it is a stretch to blame these business shenanigans on Clinton's influence, but the Dems pull this crap all the time. Remember how the responsibility for the murder of one man - Matthew Shepard - was laid at the feet of every traditionalist Christian in the country? As Anne Coulter pointed out, this one murder somehow represented a vast cultural trend, but when conservative books top the New York Times best seller list, it supposedly signifies nothing.

You would think immorality could never lead to more immorality.........
I have seen your posts and they don't support traditional conservatism (which includes strong morals) in the slightest.

You are being naive. Whenever Clinton perjured himself, suborned perjury or in some other way abused power, the response was, ``the economy is great, so it doesn't matter.'' The zeitgeist that created made it more possible for the Enrons and others to happen. The attitude wwas, ``as long as things are going well today, we don't need the rules.'' Of course, all the people involved in illegal activities made their decisions on their own, and have no excuse, but you underrate how much of an impact on society this can have.
