'silence from the usual "Islam is evil' crowd is deafening." Indeed. But not as deafening as their response to the terrible story of Joan Vollmer, related by me in post 220. Violence in the name of religion is not a thing of the past, unfortunately, and even Christianity is not exempt. The faster everyone faces up to this and acknowledges it, the better it will be.

Until we invent a device that can truly look into people's hearts, I find it hard to take anyone solely at their word that they are a (fill in the name of your favorite religious sect here). People who commit violence in the name of their creator may tithe, may attend church/temple/mosque, may dress the part, and may even solemnly rub blue mud into their navels like everyone around them. But I refuse to believe that a creator worthy of the name would instruct Her disciples to mindlessly murder in His name.
