I would think the phone records could indicate if Ricci's wife called or not. If SLCPD finds she's lying about calling the mechanic (such as a call placed from their home or her office-assuming she works), she's not looking too good herself. If she is lying, I would think she's involved as well.

Yeah they could catch wife in lies and threaten her with being charged with involvement in the crime and offer her a deal to tell what she knows.

Your right. They can use the phone records to see if Ricci's wife actually called the mechanic's shop or not. I assume they probably already did this.

They should know by now if Ricci is a suspect or not. They may be taking advantage of Ricci's other crimes and criminal background to get everyone involved in front of the grand jury and get their stories while under oath.

I think the grand jury is a good idea. I hope they call everyone involved to appear before it.
