Anti-Arabism, yes, its everywhere. I fear for what might happen in the future. Absurd that some people seem relieved to find that a Palestinian might have blue eyes - makes 'em human after all!

I have just come back from Jordan, and there was a lot of anti-Palestinian feeling there, as well. (A "we don't want any more of them here" thing. "They are just trying to run away from their problems and come here ... Turn them back at the border ... ")

But there is some sort of rising tide of racism in all directions. It is so general, and roused by so many causes, that it is hard to explain. I think that there is also a huge amount of latent anti-Semitisim on the Christian right, waiting for the moment to appear. At the moment, these forces appear to be quite pro-Israel, but if American policy in the M.E. sees serious difficulties, I think that Israel will suddenly become the scapgoat.
