They're saying that it's not a large source, and couldn't be used in a bomb. Still and all, kind of worrisome.

Here's a picture of the device they're looking for:

Most likely a "Troxler". Very common at construction sites where soil compaction is done. This meter tells whether or not compaction requirements are met. Very low emmisions. Nothing to worry about.

The radiation in these devices is so minimal it doesn't matter. Although the boss isn't very happy because the tester is quite expensive. I had to use one to test the cap at the city dump one day. Me and my co-worker tested a bunch of areas and in one of the last areas tested it broke through the dirt cap and hit this weird red liquid. My co-worker pulls the probe out of the ground looks at it and then smells it. It was a DUMP for goodness sakes but it smelled like cherry. LOL.

Chill out T Bob.
That's a Troxler nuclear density device. It has a pea-sized grain of Cesium 137 and would probably screw you up only if you swallowed it. I'm confident that a thief, not a terrorist stole it.

When that nuke waste starts rolling to Yucca Mtn., then we'll have to worry!

These "ALERTS" are getting really silly. And the "NEWS" items regarding anything remotely to do with the war, like "Pakistanis die in Brooklyn house fire".
Can people please post germane news. I mean when I first saw this bogus alert I thought someone stole uranium from a plant or something. Sheesh, c'mon people.

Stolen from Corryton? Likely they were after the van and not the contents. This would probably not have happened just a year or so ago. D.O.T. changed colors of vehicles from orange to white. White vans are easy to blend into traffic where as orange ones stick out like a sore thumb.

I think this is a good rule of thumb you can use to judge how dangerous any stolen radioactive material might be: If you can find it
listed for sale at Amazon, it's probably not something you have to worry about.
