I had been meaning to post this fascinating and entertaining article for a while, but, sadly, Liberty is not available online. All typos are mine.

Its a great article. There are so many details and vivid images - those dwarfs bent to resemble traditional daggers! I did notice one thing which must be a deliberate ommission by the writer - he talks about the periodical flare ups about every 50 years. But he does not mention the most recent of them - the massacres in Bali when Sukarno fell from power (1964 or 1966?) Huge numbers of people were put to death, including many in Bali. They were accused of being Communists, but of course a lot of it was just communal bloodletting.

"... Ketut’s friend, Made, for example, has insomnia. He has found a cure, however. He says for the last few years he cannot go to sleep until he finds a Javanese Muslim and gives him a good punch. Then he can sleep."

It's the little things in life that matter most.

Thanks. Very good find and a look into a much neglected area of the world. Even such a 'liberal' muslim girl could not countenance shifting away for love. People just don't get it; the islamoborg seek world domination and nothing can stand in their way.
