Well, it's been 4 years since I first found Free Republic. I have always felt like I belonged here and have really enjoyed the banter back and forth between us members. I am afraid all this is now over. I am really suprised and shocked at it's suddenness. Before I leave I want to thank a freeper from Michigan who sent me a DVD player last year to give to my kids for Christmas. You reaffirmed my faith in humanity.
I know this thread will be deleted before many people get to read it, but I just can't go without saying a final word. Every since 911 the 'vibe' here at FR has been decidedly hostile. I guess it was a matter of time before the newbie moderator got around to weeding me out for my sometimes unpopular views. So I join the ranks of A+Bert and so many others who gave FR a interesting flavor. I will miss coming here 20 times a day and keeping up on things. But without posting priviledges there is just no point. I must go find another conservative group to try to be a part of.
In the future, when a freeper who has been a loyal member since August 1998 crosses the line, how about a note instead of banning? Would that have been too much? I may have gotten out of line, how is beyond me, but if such a tresspass would have been pointed out I would gladly have refrained from doing so again. It is just not right to just ban an account with no explaination. Especially when the freeper has been here 4 years. I have no idea what I am going to do with my days now that I no longer have FR. Well, I guess I have said my part. It is a sad day when one has to leave family and friends. I feel like some of you were just that. But apparently I am no longer wanted around here. I bid my good day to you all and hope that karma pays it's respects to those who do injustice.
Wanna talk about how FOIA's expedited requests for media members is, with the proliferation of the Internet, quite outdated and needs changed?
Some call John McCain a "decorated war hero", as well. That will not stop me from impugning his character.....if there is any left.
I am very pro Veteran but that doesn't mean I take everything they say as unvarnished truth.
Following the Congress' affirmation of a State of War. (Jefferson Papers, the source which you are citing, May 13, 1791)
You are correct - and when you can show that Bush has gone beyond what Congress has let him, you'd be really correct. But you're not really correct.
Post it, Howlin, or retract.
Congress thereafter enacted a statute authorizing the President to instruct the commanders of armed vessels of the United States to seize all vessels and goods of the Bey of Tripoli ''and also to cause to be done all such other acts of precaution or hostility as the state of war will justify . . .''
Another good catch.
Well, it can be used to disorient if you are in solitary. But as he is not and he does have contact with the outside world I would guess that they have him on suicide watch. You never know when he might decide to gnaw open his wrists or something. They do seem to love martyrdom.

Me,too!
and the brutal, ruthless prosecution of this 'war on terror' will help lower the odds.
I agree! So,when are we going to attack Saudi Arabia?
Kowtowing to the knee-jerk "civil rights" screechers and the pissants of political correctness (especially the "ethnic profiling" hand-wringers) is no way to fight this kind of war.
I agree with the PC aspects of what you said, but what is wrong with insuring US citizens being given their Constitutional rights?
Some rules may need to be bent, and I can live with that.
Which ones? The ones against free speech? Gun possession? How about the right to have a warrant issued before a search?
I trust this President and his administration.
I don't trust ANY administration or president when it comes to safeguarding my freedoms. They ALL need to be closely watched. Thank God George W. Bush and company are so easily able to dismiss the frightened mice and their enablers.
Seems to me he has mostly sang soothing songs to the mice. You are not one bit safer today that you were on 9-10. All this airport security crap is just a "feel good" dog and pony show to put the mice back to sleep.
Neither the Taliban militia nor the Al Qaeda terrorist network is considered a sovereign nation and therefore a declaration of war is not appropriate in this war.
Likewise, the United States never considered the Confederate States of America to be a sovereign nation and war was never declared by Congress during the Civil War.
Prior to the Barbary War, Congress debated whether or not to declare war on the Barbary States. Congress decided that the Barbary States were no more than a collection of pirates and to declare war would dignify them with the status of sovereign states. Therefore, Congress refused to declare war and instead passed an Authorization to Use Force.
In the same Barbary War, President Thomas Jefferson stated that a declaration of war was unnecessary, whether the Barbary States were sovereign states or not, because the Barbary States had already caused a state of war to exist by attacking the United States and therefore a state of war already existed. In other words, Thomas Jefferson recognized that a Declaration of War was a diplomatic courtesy between sovereign states before the bullets started flying.
Was that a formal declaration of war or just more squirming?
Did you read my link? There was NO formal declaration of War. The congress passed a joint resolution to acknowledge that a state of war existed an in effect forced Jefferson to do his duty. That Joint resolution was NOT a DOW but the same type of joint resolution that Bush is operating under.
Do you ever expect the war on terror to end?
That war on drugs will give you an idea when it will end.
A squirming non sequitur. Nice to see some variety.
Ya know, I think you have a point..
But it's really late. We can call each other names over that tomorrow.
:)
