At its essence, rooting against the American soccer team symbolizes resistance to being absorbed into a country whose populace and government do not always do the right thing -- especially against the immigrants and their home countries. Why don't they go back to their countries which always do the right thing?
P.S. I love soccer.

The best example of American vs Foreign views of the game was Kent Brockman's play by play vs his Latin American counterpart's:
"Center passes to wing...who holds it...holds it (sigh)...holds it....aaaand passes it back to Center."
VERSUS
"Center passes to wing..he holds it..Holds It...HOLDS IT!!..AND PASSES BACK TO CENTER!!!"

I wonder how this works. I was born in the US and lived in England for over 6 years. When I watch the World Cup I cheer for both the US and England. However, when they play I would still have to cheer for the US. I would have when I was in England too!

It'd be nice for a Latin American country to beat the United States. It would be like payback." "Just because I want the United States to lose doesn't mean I want the country itself to suffer," Sagastizado says. "I just want the soccer team to be beat."
Liar. "Payback" for what?

As long as this stupid government continues to allow enclaves of hostile foreign populations to grow and accumulate, this crap will go on and will eventually lead to a real civil war and deaths. Two or more opposing cultures with vastly different goals cannot occuy the same space without inevitable conflict. Either Mexicans and others become Americans and adopt American ways and culture or there will be massive social upheaval, and to hell with what temporary political whoring filth want or think.

"a fact that many nonimmigrant Americans see as tantamount to treason."
We're all immigrants and descendents in the US. The difference is that when our forebears came, they wanted to be Americans. This new batch of the last 40 years does not, apparently.

Ya... These "immigrants" love the opportunities here but hate us.
What they don't seem to realize is it is the "us" that give them those opportunities.
These same people probably cheered when the WTC went down
As they said, "a little payback"
As far as I'm concerned, they should go home. Citizenship is more than accepting our "opportunities".

Because a large majority of them are criminal illegal aliens not American citizens, they are most likely citizens of Vicente Fox's third world hole called Mexico.

This is the reward America gets for opening her doors to the less fortunate. They come here, change our language, traditions and soon will take over our country. The founding fathers would turn over in their graves!America has been sold out by our elected officials and we have no one to blame but ourselves. We no longer have leaders who put Americans first, its self and power through system manipulation. We are doomed by our own rule of law.

This is yet another example of newly arrived spanish speakers coming to this country for what can you give me, being too lazy to assimilate into american society. Anyone who isn't concerned about this most minute issue as soccer (football) should look at the wider issue. These people are the replacement for the boomer generation. Well if they don't give two rips about a U.S. national team, then i suspect they don't give a d*** about the country as a whole. PLEASE get out of the U.S. and move to latin america! I don't know if it was confirmed but i read mexican residents of the united states threw bottles of p*** at the U.S. national team.

"I don't even know how I'm going to be able to stay awake at work," Sagastizado says with a laugh.Note to illegal's, this is not the way to get ahead in this country. Think like this and you will be living in the slums for the rest of your life.

F**k you traitors. My bloodlines are Irish. I'll cheer for Ireland in the World Cup....unless they are playing the USA.
To: jordan8
An outlet for immigrants to voice their frustration against the US?
When do I get an outlet to voice my frustration over the ungrateful immigrants?
To: jordan8
Few of these immigrants will be cheering for the United States
Few immigrants from Mexico.
I know dozens of Irish immigrants and each and every one of them cheers for the US.
They are grateful and gracious about their adopted homeland. Unlike some others.
