The ever-changing face of hatred: Justice has been served in church bombing, but racism still remain
MSNBC ^ | May 23 2002 | By Jill Nelson

It might be easier if all racists were like Bobby Frank Cherry: easily identified, cartoon character good old boys. It might be simpler if all racism manifested itself in violent, clumsy ways. But like any virus, in order to survive, racism adapts to its conditions. These complex times call for a more subtle approach. Today, some racists wear suits and ties, run big bureaucracies or work in government and private corporations. Some are those who have declared racism dead, that the playing field has been leveled, and that affirmative action unnecessary and in itself racist.

Today’s racists are those who willfully ignore the existence of both discrimination against African Americans and their own white privilege. They are those who insist that all they have is due to hard work, while all that other, less fortunate members of society lack is a result of their own ineptitude. Like Cherry, today’s racists take lives and livelihoods, crush spirits, and then blame the victim. I’m pleased that Bobby Frank Cherry will spend the rest of his days in prison, but his conviction won’t bring those four girls back. And racism still is not dead. That can only happen when Americans recognize the entrenched system of white privilege that disenfranchises not only black Americans, but all people of color, not only here, but around the world, and work to dismantle it.

Lucky indeed that I accessed the red lettering. Sweet Jill, has her likeness therein. She is African-American; though I hesitate to use this phrase. Whoa, steady, I said to myself when I first perused the item. I checked and could'nt deliver a homily on elite white women, who are stuck on the same theme.

I like to question elite white women (liberals),on where their posteriors fit in the great scheme of things. They are very often in positions ,that reflect the "racist" society that they criticise. Oh well, one can merely ask- pathetically, of Super Jill, this question. "Black people don't kill white people- (whine in voice) do they?

I saw the old dignified man, a talking head(white) on MSNBC, after the day of the sentencing of Cherry. I thought, yes, if he (Cherry) did it, serves him right. I do have grand daughters too. Then I thought, you old hypocrite(talking head)- does he care about wanton crime that singles out the other racial group? He does not. It is more than his job is worth.

Finish school, keep your record clean, work hard and you have as good a chance at success as anyone.

Pure common sense, and yet many still don't seem to be able to grasp this simple concept in their approach to life.

Since supposedly only us white folk are racist, I guess that means that it would be perfectly safe for me to take a walk through an inner city black neighborhood late at night.

I guess that Madame C.J. Walker, a black millionairess in the latter 1800s got where she was through government handouts. http://www.princeton.edu/~mcbrown/display/walker.html

I have news for this cluck, not all white people are rich. Not all white people are guaranteed a job, a college education, and success by virtue of being white. White people have to work hard just like everyone else.

The author is right.
Racism still remains, especially among liberals with their condescending message that *poor sad little blacks can't make it without the great white man to give him a hand*

This kind of black victim-mentality which portrays whites as the master of all men's fates, just reinforces the inferior, helpless and irresponsible attitude that keeps blacks down.
Liberal racism is absolutely sickening.

One time I asked my aunt what life was like during the Depression, and she said: "We didn't notice no Depression. Times was always hard on the farm."

LOL. In high school we had to interview someone who had lived during the Depression. I asked my grandmother that same question, and her answer was, "What Depression?" Before, during, after -- made no difference to poor folks just making do.

Neither of my grandparents went to college, but they made darn sure both my mother and uncle did. They wanted better for their kids, and worked hard to make it happen. No hand-out, no welfare, no whining. Just work.

The author of this article gets no sympathy from me, nor guilt. Barf alert is right.

But....but....their victims still vote for them. That's what really counts. If they can get the African Americans to lose more, they gain more. Get it? Hold them down like slaves, and they'll vote Democrat every time. The Democrat think tanks are making a killing off these folks.

I guess that black girl in Texas, who ran over the white homeless man and then let him die in her garage, only to giggle and brag about hitting some white guy, was just misunderstood.

Today’s racists are those who willfully ignore the existence of both discrimination against African Americans and their own white privilege.

The truth is black homes with both a mother and father have an income that is nearly equal to that of white households.
The lack of two parent homes is holding blacks down more than anything any "racists" could possibly do to them.

But then we wouldn't expect the above liberal racist author who wants to blame all blacks problems on others to understand the impact of personal responsibility on life.

Black on white crime is never considered racist. It cannot be because blacks are the oppresed, so say the Libs. I seem to remeber a while back when a black man went and shot up a bunch of whites, saying the whole time that he was infact out to kill whites, had racist literature in his appartment, and he still wasn't charged with a hate crime.

While I don't personnaly believe that all crime is a "Hate" crime, if your going to have the stupid law it at least should be applied equally.

I know it's been said before, but the only thing that keeps some blacks from having a better lott in life is their own self defeatism, their lack of famaily stabillity, and those self serving Libs who see themselves as the only ones who can help them.

"Justice?" Prosecutors found a bunch of estranged relatives to testify against an elderly man and say he committed a crime decades ago!

Any investigator can tell you that ex-wives make great sources - but also that they aren't trustworthy unless it is possible to really verify what they said.

Guilty or wrongly convicted, Bobby Cherry was the victim of a racially-inspired lynching.
