[history]
The U.S. government has alerted airlines and law enforcement agencies that new intelligence indicates that Islamic terrorists have smuggled shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles into the United States.
Classified intelligence reports circulated among top Bush administration policymakers during the past two weeks identified the missiles as Russian-made SA-7 surface-to-air missiles or U.S.-made Stinger anti-aircraft missiles obtained covertly in Afghanistan, said intelligence officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

This threat brings to mind the Middle-Eastern men who were stopped near the Whidbey Island Naval Airbase in Oak Harbor, WA. I think that the men were eventually released, but maybe there was more to this incident than the investigation revealed.

This is simply another "warning" to let the country know we are on a "war footing" so that we get used to this condition.
In other words, they want us conditioned.
Remember folks, after 9/11, the CIA/FBI said they foiled dozens/100s of attacks against the US and against Americans in the preview year or so. They could supposedly, and I do use the term loosely, stop all of these terrorist attacks, but now they are helpless and have no clue what's going on. Yeah, okay, sure, you betcha.

Could the missile have self-destructed after firing, and put a fragment into the fuel tank? But that would imply the missile's warhead actually detonated. Problem: no such blast fragmentation pattern was found from the wreckage. I believe that most MANPAD's use contact fuzes, not proximity fuses.

I wouldn't expect commercial aircraft to be their first target -- I'd be most worried about Air Force One. AF-1 isn't exactly defensless. I know it has flares, chafe and other countermeasures, not to mention a highly skilled and dedicated flight crew that can and will pull violent manuvers to evade danger.

the alert was that Dianna Ross had checked herself into some rehabilitation spa. I HEAR YA! I saw that too...total bs to mess with our minds like that...

I believe that most MANPAD's use contact fuzes, not proximity fuses. They do use proximity fuses. However, they don't detonate on 200+ feet of proximity--that's well outside the lethal radius of a MANPADS warhead.

"Missiles taking out planes is nothing. When they nuke us, that'll be news. When we're utterly ruined by the islamics.. That'll be news. A few planes or buildings will seem like 'good old days' eventually." It's time to quit being "Politically Correct" and lunch a war of terror on the RagHeads ourselves! If they start shooting down airliners, nuke their stinkin' a$$es! We have to make the thought of our retaliation so unpleasant for them that they'll think twice and back off!

Former CIA director Woolsey seemed to leave the door open about TWA 800 being brought down by some sort of missile on John Gibson's show just a little while ago.

No, I have none of the above... I simply saw a "military analyst" make the statement on Fox this morning, that's all there is that I know of...

TWA Flight 800, was shot down, just don't know who did it. Major coverup and we'll never get to the truth, EVER.

I'm ex-Navy and am quite aware that lot's of things are never told to the public until decades later. Like what really happened to the U.S.S. Liberty, may those sailors souls rest in peace.
And I've never been in the Whitehouse, though Stephanopoulis was when the TWA800 shootdown occurred. He recounted the event as an eye witness.
