We opted out of the Lutheran Church to join the Roman Catholic Church. It was a radical decision as my family had been devout Lutherans for many generations. However, I could no longer tolerate the moral relativism infecting the Lutheran leadership. I think that much of it is being resisted by Lutheran congregations at the local level, but the ones in decision-making positions are continuously placing gay marriage, abortion, gay ordination, etc. on their agendas.
Even after the priest pederasty scandal, I am sure we made the right decision and pray that the Pope and leaders in the Vatican will demonstrate strength in opposing the attack by the left on The Church following the scandal.
Attend a mass, you will be glad you did. Catholicism holds all the spiritual, ritual, and symbolic beauty we longed and hoped for.
Are you saying our side supports the burning of churches??

Can you say "bizarre and unjustified inductive leap"??
Knew you could.
I'll be kind and say that all I meant was, the conservatives act as though the truth can speak for itself, when really nowadays it needs the clearest and strongest defenders.
Our tendency to drop jaw when the other side promotes breathtaking and obvious lies is not serving us well.
True enough.
You'd think we would be used to it by now.
Indeed. You are right on the mark there.
What I'll never get used to is the way unthinking leftists eat that stuff up. As Whittaker Chambers said once, "The false was cast in the image of the world's desire." These guys aren't living in the real world, and they seem to think that their mere say-so is enough to substitute their fantasy for reality. They've been fat, happy, and careless for a sight longer than is good for 'em.
9/11 was the wedge which cracked open the shell for many, but the greater number are no less proof against reality than they have always been against rationality. And even though I know it's coming, my jaw still drops when I see it. Wonder if civilization itself could survive the scale of calamity that it would finally take to sweep away such hard-shell obstinacy.

United Methodist General Board of Church and Society Opposes
Boy Scouts Anti-gay Policy
This is a statement of the General Board of Church and Society of The United Methodist Church, adopted by the Board October 10, 1999. The general board is directed to "speak its convictions, interpretation, and concerns to the Church and to the World."
Since its inception in 1910, over eighty-seven million youth and adults have joined the Boy Scouts of America. Churches sponsor 62 percent of Boy Scout troops, or 55 percent of all boys in scouting at all age levels. The United Methodist Church sponsors 11,738 units, accounting for 421,579 boys in scouting.
While the General Board of Church and Society would like to enthusiastically affirm and encourage this continuing partnership of the church and scouting, we cannot due to the Boy Scouts of Americas discrimination against gays. This discrimination conflicts with our Social Principles.

The problem is that 95% of the mass media reports Democratic National Committee faxed press releases as breaking news. Fox News and the alternate media like Free Republic provide a balanced news outlet to an amazing small, albeit growing audience of individuals capable of independent thinking.
The the 1996 Church Fire Scare is one of many, many hoaxes and pseudo-crises from the left.
These hoaxes also include day care center abuse and Satanism charges, Alar-poisoned apples, the amazing disappearing (1992-2000) homeless crisis, and the current orchestrated campaign to destroy the Catholic priesthood.
This is more evidence that it is the left that is the ultimate domestic threat to our national survival. They have created a climate where the only group that can be vilified and "racially profiled" to prevent violence are whites, while potential Muslim terrorists cannot be profiled. Indeed, little in the culture makes it possible to even look with suspicion on anyone other than whites.
We've met the enemy--and we are them.
Awesome insight.
It's hard to believe five years ago I'd never heard of this place...

Good list. The Reagan "ketchup as a vegetable" flap could also be added.
Having just polished off some delicious soy "chicken" nuggets with some tasty sugar-free pure tomato ketchup, I can assure you that Reagan was on to something. Tomatoes are full of lycopenes, which are significant cancer inhibiting agents.
Hmm. Hadn't thought of that approach.
I usually just ask any lefty who is sputtering with indignity over Reagan's cruelty to children if he or she really thinks Presidents make decisions personally about what goes where in school lunch programs. Then I ask what he thinks happened when the issue came to Reagan's attention. He won't know, so I tell him -- Reagan reversed the policy. So if Reagan didn't set the policy and reversed it when he found out, then what exactly, I ask, did Reagan do wrong? Generally at this point the lefty changes the subject, but if not, I inquire innocently if he knows that salsa was categorized as a vegetable in school lunch programs during the Clinton maladministration...
And of the rare individual who seems intelligent and open-minded, I ask this: how did you come to believe that this incident reflects badly on President Reagan when the facts obviously don't support it? This segues nicely into a discussion of media propaganda techniques...
