He equates a child's self-will with original sin but somehow thinks that parents, unlike God, should be able to win this battle and produce docile children.

Nope, no sale. I've listened to Dobson's radio shows now and then, and I didn't hear anything about docile. Disciplined and obedient, not docile. If you want docile, fill'em up with Ritalin. I saw what it did to my nephew. His parents took him off it after a year. It turned him into a zombie. Not to mention, God gives free will. So, parents and society are left to win this battle. I guess Anne Eggebroten would have thought that Christ ought to have gotten down off that cross and saved Himself, if he really was God. Arrogance.

Many of these gender neutral translations deliberately mis-translate obviously masculine pronouns, with no qualms. FOr example, the familair passage "I will make ye fishers of men" is rendered in one recent version thusly: "I will send you out to catch people"!

It looks to me like some people simply have waaaaaay too much time on their hands. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... I switched to the RSVCE (Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition) from the New American because I missed the poetic language and the elegant pacing of the older translations.

"I will send you out to catch people"!

And what is wrong with that?

I'm a conservative Christian and not a feminist, and I welcome the changes in the NRSV--I believe they are scholarly based.

The English language has always had an inherent bias toward masculine words. The NRSV does not alter masculine terms in passages of narrative and parable, but only changes them in passages where it is clear that both sexes are addressed in the passage.

I do not like the feminist sponsored versions of the Bible which are paraphrases and not based on scholarship or related to the original languages. They are propoganda.
