Great post, xsysmgr. I wish all Americans, that were born here, had 1% of this new American's understanding of the dilemma our country faces.
That goes double for our RINO President and that gullible libertarian, Ziglar, that's in charge of the INS.
I OFTEN wonder why it is deemed OK to endeavor to shift the ethnic balance in one direction but not another.
Or even to suggest maintaining it in place.
Derbyshire usually has some interesting points to share but this article is...well... so repetitive and simplistic. Immigration should not be about race but Derbyshire pretty much wants a free pass on race whe it comes to who gets in to America. Strange isn't it that not one word is mentioned about security! And yet immigration policy should be about security. That means that NO ideological Muslims need apply! And that means that those seeking refuge from oppressive nations - mostly Muslim but still a few Communist ones namely Cuba - should be welcomed here. I have personally dealt with thousands of immigrants and they are generally more patriotic than native born Americans - all except for the recent (last ten years or so) of Muslims from wherever.
Freedom Is Worth Fighting For !!
Molon Labe !!
How would you tell the difference between the ideological muslims and the non-ideological muslims?
Simply put with an interview with the right questions asked by a competent, knowledgable (hard to find) immigration officer and accurate background information. Within 24 hours I can usually discern what a Muslim believes about Americans and about the west in general. I am not convinced (yet) that all muslims are committed to the destruction of the west. There are plenty of them that are persecuted by their own - Kurds, Sudanese Black muslims, Shiias from iraq, etc. These I see as potential converts to Christianity.
I'm a native Californian of German-Irish heritage. My daughter is half Philippino, and therefore only 50% Caucasian herself. Race has nothing to do with this.
It's about the Law, the Language, and the Culture... Illegals must go.
I think eliminating the provision that a child born in this country is automatically a citizen would be at least a small step in curtailing illegal immigration.
Also, the Bush Administration is fining businesses if they want their employees to speak English, and Little Tommy Thompson is reQUIRing hospitals provide prfessional translators. This is driving up health care costs.
My grandparents came here from Sicily; my parents speak perfect English (well, New Yorkese). English should be required for citizenship!!
What I thought this writer was trying to say is immigration is one thing, but we're being swamped.
We currently take in a million a year legally. Is that enough, or would you like more? And what about the 10 million or so illegals? What would you do with them?
If Congress had enacted the Jordan Commission's recommendations in 1996, we probably wouldn't even be discussing this issue as much as we are today. It would have brought the legal numbers down to what they were in the eighties, about 500,000. And most importantly, it would have ended Ted Kennedy's disastrous family chain scam, along with tightening up illegal immigration laws. The legislation was killed by RINO's like Spencer Abraham. The "workhorse" considered it his best achievement while in the Senate. Thank God for this country the voters of Michigan thought otherwise. If he were still there, Bush would have already gotten his every demand for amnesties.
I'm not against immigration, I don't think most Americans are. But it needs to be done in moderation so we can assimiliate them. And it needs to be done legally.
Example, not to long ago you couldn't swing a dead cat on the east coast without hitting an illegal Irish immigrant. Ireland lowered their tax rates and BANG the celtic tiger was born, and the drain of irish immigrating slowed to a trickle.
Now the drugloads and oligarchs running these countries mey not want to give up power, TOO BAD! It strikes me that there has to be any number of people in Mexico/Central america who want to improve their countries and bring "the blessings of liberty to us and our posterity" to their countries.
The point of this little rant is, why don't we try something that might actually work, what do we have to lose, money(we've got plenty of that, prestige(in mexico and central/south america, give me a break). Rich neighbors are good neighbors.
Sabertooth, Thanks for the oportunity to vent.
It is insane otherwise.
