No one should act surprised. This decision was made by John Magaw former director of the BATF. He doesn't want anyone but the police state armed. After all it was one of his lieutenants who advocated perjury by BATF agents giving testimony on the witness stand to get a conviction.

The question should not be what GW knew before 9/11 but why is Bush leaving Clinton cronies in high places?

Clinton probably knows more about government activities than Bush thru daily briefings!

Now you are the one with the real answer.

Currently, the pilot is the "sole and final" authority with respect to the operation of the aircraft. Guys like Magaw hate that. They think that they should be in charge of the aircraft, i.e., the sky marshall on board should be the real authority, and the pilot nothing more than a remote controlled button-bot.

I've worked with a lot of cops in aviation, and one thing always came out: they don't like the idea that an aircraft commander can make a decision that they don't have a say in. In fact, a number of them don't believe that aviation should be private. They believe that airlines and pilots should be run by the government. There's a word for that...starts with a "C"...

Magaw did this because he wants the guy in the back with the SIG to have the real control. Look for the FAA to propose new rules subordinating the pilot's judgement to the TSA sky marshall's orders.
