Great - that's 20 miles from me. It's a warm night, but I'll still close the windows.

Anyone know if a gas mask is useful against cyanide gas? I'm not too far from Yonkers.

Yikes...wonder if this could be have anything to do the cyanide missing from that truck?
I hope they are wrong about this.

Reports say several hundred people have been quarantined. Reports suggest that cyanide gas may be responsible.
I know you are just reporting what you hear, but how does that make sense?

Zoiks! Wonder if this might somehow be related to the 10 tons of sodium cyanide missing from a truck in Mexico...?

Why isn't anyone else reporting this?
To: dogbyte12
Any new info? Still nothing on the Cable News networks.
To: dogbyte12
No news outlets are reporting this as yet. News 12 Long Island isn't even reporting it.

Reports say several hundred people have been quarantinedThis would not be cyanide. It would be more like a communicable disease of some sort, or a bio contaminate. Cyanide disperses. It is only dangerous in a confined area or if ingested.

You bet this is breaking news, and this may be the only way some FReepers in that area get to find out. I don't think any moderator would be so rash as to deny this information to those who could be most affected by it.
Can anyone tell me if there are a lot of West African immigrants in this neighborhood? I'm thinking Ebola or some sort of hemorrhagic fever.

There's absolutely no point to quarantine folks because of cyanide exposure. It's not contagious.

From the Mayor of Yonkers:
Any indication of suspected cyanide gas or other poison may have been consumed by residents in a fourth floor apartment at 223 Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers.
Two women are on life support.
Ingested orally?

I think it would be unlikely the Mexican product would be used this quickly. Of course that dismisses the possiblity that this was a slam bam operation. Anything is remotely possible, I guess. If I were the authorities I wouldn't rule ANYTHING out.

Why no cable coverage????????

It sounds more like "shelter-in place" than a quarantine.
