Groups Seek To Oust McKinney From Committees

5/13/02

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - A black conservative group is calling for the removal of Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) from the House Armed Services and International Relations Committees for allegedly having ties to terrorists or terrorist allies.

"Dick Gephardt should remove her from those committees and launch an investigation into her donors," said Kevin Martin, director of government affairs for the African-American Republican Leadership Council (AARLC).

In a statement issued Monday, the group challenged McKinney because she has allegedly "refused to disavow support of known terrorist supporters including Hezbollah and Hamas protagonist Abdurahman Alamoudi."

As CNSNews.com previously reported, McKinney received $1000 from Alamoudi, the founder and former executive director of the American Muslim Council.

"I have been labeled by the media in New York as being a supporter of Hamas. Anybody supporters of Hamas here?" Alamoudi asked, to cheers from the crowd at an October 2000 White House protest of U.S. policies in the Middle East.

"Hear that, Bill Clinton? We are all supporters of Hamas ... I wish they added that I am also a supporter of Hezbollah," he added.

Both Hezbollah and Hamas are on the State Department's official list of terrorist organizations.

Alamoudi's contribution is one of 45 McKinney received during the 1999-2000 election cycle that did not list the occupation of the donor as required by the FEC. Those donations totaled $24,000 and included contributions from other groups and individuals that have made statements considered supportive of terrorist organizations.

"Given the sensitive nature of the committees on which [McKinney] sits, the American people would be better served and rest easier at night reassured that [information from] the briefings this congresswoman might be privy to, does not end up in the wrong hands," the group's statement continued.

The AARLC is calling for a House Ethics Committee investigation into whether McKinney has "compromised her committees' assignments, is a friend of terrorists, has accepted funds from terrorists, aids and abets terrorists, committed treason in her oath to defend and protect the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic."

Martin says AARLC is also asking Rep. Eddie Bernie Johnson (D-Texas), chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, to suspend McKinney from that group.

The AARLC is the second group to formally request a congressional ethics probe into McKinney's conduct. The first was requested by the Southeastern Legal Foundation April 12. That request, made to the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct, also concerned contributions McKinney has received from alleged terrorist supporters.

SLF also sent a letter to House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.) Monday requesting McKinney's removal from the two committees that receive intelligence briefings concerning the war on terrorism.

"The factual evidence is clear: McKinney has taken money from some very dangerous people who have publicly supported terrorist organizations," said Phil Kent, president of SLF.

"Congress must not tolerate the appearance of impropriety at a time when America is engaged in the war on terrorism. The stakes are too high, and she has too much access to classified information, to take this lightly," Kent said.

The letter argues that removing McKinney from the two committees is the "prudent course of action" until an investigation can be completed.

Multiple calls to McKinney's office requesting comment on this story were not returned prior to publication.

Now I would like to be a fly on the wall if that happens.

McKinney might, just might, be in trouble forre-election this time out...The new district boundaries mean that the district is not a "black" district anymore, also, her GOP opponent is a fairly conservative black woman, so that will mitigate the inevitable charges of racism.....it might just be time for a change....

"McKinney might, just might, be in trouble forre-election this time out.."

If she is, she did it to herself by not serving her district, putting her black activism before everything. She does not belong in our government. That is a spot reserved for a person that cares for America first.

If money will buy this election then McKinney will win hands-down. Lets hope it will do her no good. I have been doing some research on Denise Majette, so far I like what I have found on this woman, she seems to really care and knows what is going on in the district.

District 04

Graphs Name Through Party Receipts Disbursements From PACs From Indivs Ending Cash

*********************************************************

MAJETTE, DENISE L 03/31/2002 DEM $130,148 $104,024 $1,000 $94,148 $26,123

MCKINNEY, CYNTHIA 03/31/2002 DEM $248,689 $138,025 $94,500 $150,280 $278,112

Out-of-State 79%

In-State 21%

From GA : $23,300.00

From individuals not from GA: $85,650.00

79% of itemized contributions from individuals were from out of state...

Note: Contributors for whom no state was disclosed are not part of these totals.

We all know what McKinney's response will be: the red herring of them all:

Her accuser's actions are based on racism....

Just watch and see....

There were several articles posted here a while back...I tried a search but couldn't find them...Maybe you'll have better luck...apparently the new district boundaries realy make it a viable contest, though of course they're still reassessing it...butr I think something like 40% of the voters are new to McKinney, so they might be impacted by a negative first impression, which Cynthia is providing hands down..if the race polls close, I think you'll see a lot of GOP national congressional campaign money pour into the district......

Gephardt will leave her on the committees (especially Armed Services) for the same reason he refused to remove Condit from the Intelligence committee -- spite. The demoroids will wreck the country just to get one over on the Republicans.

Welll, little miss mommy-war-bucks can scream "racism" and use the race card (don't be a homey without it) all she wants, Ms. Denise Majette is just as black as she is. Skin color has nothing to do with the person that McKinney is. It will not work for her this time. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and say lots of prayers for all who run against this radical.

mckinney is a good dem because she supports these groups. the party seeks nothing less than global governance, and the destruction of the usa will have to happen first.

time for us to stop being naive....it aint a coincidence this party is riddled with terrorist supporters and commies. klinton pardoned terrorists at the end of his term....just for money?...look at the pattern.

"mckinney is a good dem because she supports these groups. the party seeks nothing less than global governance, and the destruction of the usa will have to happen first."

There are quite a few people that think McKinney would do well by doing what she was "elected" to do, take care of her district, not bankrupt them!

“DeKalb County taxpayers are essentially paying twice for services which should be provided by the incumbent [Cynthia McKinney] – and for which she is being paid,”

“The citizens of DeKalb should really appreciate the foresight and assertiveness of CEO Vernon Jones. Equally, they should join the concert of other residents already questioning ‘isn’t that what we pay our member of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives to do?’” Majette asked.

“Why do we not have that same kind of representation? ” Majette asked. “If the incumbent were less focused on getting her picture in the papers and on television and more concerned with her constituents, taxpayers would not be billed for this $96,000 contract.”

If the above is true and, it actually takes place, it will go a along way to show the rest of the country Patriotism is alive & well in all colors. This would be a powerful message to send those that are hell bent on keeping chains on a segment of the population. Amen
