I agree with both of you. And I believe a shotgun is a good weapon inside city limits, especially within an apartment. A thirty-eight can travel farther than is safe. An innocent is much more likely to be injured. However, the 38 is easier to carry and a good backup IMO. I realize there are exceptions to this. I don't currently own a shotgun.

I learned this years ago, and I may get flamed, but here goes: You shoot to kill. You don't shoot to maim. If you or your family are in a position to be shot or mortally injured, take that chest shot. It's about as easy to hit as the broadside of a barn if you've practiced.

I've never had to shoot a gun at anyone, nor do I expect to have to do that sort of a thing. But I'm prepared, and I hope I won't falter if that time comes.

Might I suggest Glaser Safety Slugs or some other form of low-penetration ammunition?

You ever think how unweildy (sp?) even an 18-in shotgun would be in a cramped city apartment? Unless handguns were illegal, I would think a pistol would make a better weapon.
